Destiny 2's loot economy is getting a massive overhaul with Season 20. Not only will blue Engrams finally stop dropping after the player reaches the soft power cap (which is when they stop being useful), Guardians will also be able to focus their playlist Engrams to be more of what they want and less of what they don't.
Outlined in a blog update, Bungie revealed changes coming to the playlist vendors coming in Season 20. Before, Legendary Engrams awarded by these vendors would contain random stuff for whatever was currently in their playlist's loot pool. Starting with Lightfall and Season 20, players will have the option to focus those Engrams into specific older gear. New weapons for the season will remain random drops, but if there's an older set of armor or weapons that you want to grab, then these focusing changes are a godsend.
We'll start with Zavala over at the Vanguard playlist. Vanguard Engrams will still appear in the Rang Progress bar just as they usually do, but starting next season, you can focus those Engrams into specific weapons. Focusing for older weapons is free so long as you've obtained at least one version of the weapon before, while focusing for older armor will cost at least one Vanguard Engram, 25 Legendary Shards, and 5,000 Glimmer.
Things get more expensive for Nightfall weapons, which will cost one Vanguard Engram, 50 Legendary Shards, and 20,000 Glimmer for Adept Nightfall weapons will require Adept Nightfall Ciphers, which will be awarded for successfully completing Grandmaster Nightfalls. Focusing for an Adept Nightfall weapon will require 3 Vanguard Engrams, 50 Legendary Shards, 50,000 Glimmer, and 10 Nightfall Ciphers. Zavala will offer only one Adept Nightfall weapon for focusing each week which will be the same one that's available as a random drop.
Both the Drifter and Lord Shaxx will follow Zavala's lead when it comes to focusing costs on Gambit and Crucible weapons and armor, with slightly different costs depending on whether you're getting older weapons and armor. Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner weapons and armor will be significantly more expensive, requiring three of their respective engrams to focus for previously-obtained gear and seven engrams for gear that you haven't found before.
Ada-1 will be selling shaders in addition to her usual fair of older armor sets, and Ritual Weapons will also be available with reduced focusing costs. And with all these new focusing options, Umbral Engrams are being retired. Check out Bungie's blog for the full details.
