Want that free powerful Engram from Destiny 2: New Light? Here’s how to get it.
Destiny 2’s Shadowkeep expansion brings with it a ton of new stuff, and a lot of it is free to new players. The free-to-play portion of Destiny 2 is called “A New Light,” and it gets players started off on the right foot with a new introductory quest and tutorial.
One of the other things that A New Light brings is a new emphasis on Bungie Rewards. This is a very good thing since it’s basically a way of getting free stuff, and who doesn’t like getting free stuff?
Bungie Rewards started way back in 2018 and was built to link directly to the Bungie Store. This let players purchase things in the store and send them directly to their in-game Guardians while also allowing them purchase real-life merch at a discount.
Signing up for Bungie Rewards is simple and half the work is already done if you’re already playing Destiny or Destiny 2.
Step one is to create a Bungie.net account, which you already have if you're already playing the game as it's part of the new account creation process. Step two is to link these accounts by going to the Bungie Rewards page, clicking on the platform you play on, and then inputting your account info for either Xbox, PS4, or Steam (Battle.net is still an option, but will likely be removed in the near future).
After that, you've linked your profiles. You'll need to make sure you've got a validated email address, too, which you should have done as part of the Bungie.net character creation process.
Now you should be presented with a list of rewards after singing in. At the very top of the list is the "Powerful Engram," which you can claim by pressing the "claim reward" button. This will send the Engram to your in-game Guardians courtesy of Kadi 55-30 in the Tower. Just speak to her to claim your reward as you would any other piece of lost loot.
Other in-game stuff can be provided on the Bungie Rewards page too, so it's in your best interest to check back here every so often to see what's up. Real-life merch can also go on sale from time to time and Bungie will make emailed discount codes available to purchase those items from the Bungie store.
But don't stop with just this free Engram! There's tons of stuff you can get in Destiny 2 for free. There are the Seasonal rewards you get just from gaining XP, Vanguard and Crucible weapons and armor you can get from performing their respective mission types, in-game events that all have unique loot, and all Year 1 content will also be free for everyone.
There’s no better time to get into Destiny 2 than right now, so if you’re on the fence, get off it and download the game! Just make sure you’ve got something like 80 GB of free storage space. It turns out the cost of free stuff is hard drive space.
