Destiny 2’s Season of the Dawn is set to begin next week with a renewed focus on solar subclasses and oft-overlooked guns.

The Season of the Undying is winding to a close. If you haven't got your god-rolled Vex Offensive weapons or the seasonal Triumph, you've got a week to get 'em done. On December 10th, the season ends and will be replaced with a new dawn.

Bungie released the first trailer for Season of the Dawn today and it shows us returning to Mercury to help out with Osiris' time troubles. Apparently, killing the Undying Mind has created some sort of time paradox that needs fixing. Also, a bunch of Cabal Psion Flayers are trying to re-write time so that they never lost the Red War. Both of these are bad, and you'll have to fix 'em.

Along the way, you'll need to "journey through time to save a legendary hero," which the trailer describes as "the greatest Titan who ever lived." Whoever that might be (SPOILER: it's Saint-XIV, probably).

With Vex Offensive going the way of the dodo, a new 6-player matchmade activity is taking its place. It's called Defend the Sundial, and although we don't have any details, I'd expect it to be basically another horde-mode shoot-'em-up with unique rewards. No complaints there.

Based on the Season page on the official Destiny 2 site, we know there will be some unique armor for each class as well as two new guns. One seems to be a sidearm, a class of weapon that's often maligned by other D2 players, while the other is the Exotic Scout Rifle Symmetry, another weapon considered sub-par by the community. It seems that Bungie is trying to convince players that they're wrong about these guns. We'll see if that turns out to be true.

The Gate Lord's Eye Seasonal Artifact will be replaced by the Lanter of Osiris, and along with it will come a bunch of new seasonal mods. And of course, it wouldn't be a new season without a new seasonal pass. For everyone paying for the full pass, you'll get the Symmetry Scout Rifle right away. Everyone else will unlock it through level progression, with pass holders getting additional ornaments, triumphs, bounties, lore books, emotes, Ghost shells, and finishers.

Season of the Dawn runs from December 10th to March 9th. Also, check out Bungie's earlier news post about how they plan to rework several of the Solar classes for Titan, Hunter, and Warlock. There's a lot going on here that should shake up the game.
