In the gaming world, you would have to be under a rock to not know about the much-anticipated sequel, Destiny 2. While official download and purchase figures are still unknown, judging by an almost obscene number of sudden pop-ups of Destiny 2 walkthroughs on YouTube, and the fact that #Destiny2 was tweeted almost 35,000 times in the past 24 hours, lets you in on the fact that Destiny 2 is this week’s obsession. The initial ratings prove that it should be, the game has an 88 percent on Metacritic, and a review roundup by Gamespot revealed that initial feelings toward the game are trending positively as a general improvement on its predecessor. However, this post is not a review of this new installment; this list is going to cover essential instruments in the game: your items. To get you started, there are is some information on what to look out for in Destiny 2. As a true gamer, you probably care about the game’s story of the Traveler, and your role in fighting the new enemy (no spoilers, promise), but it's no fun if you don’t know the best guns and armor to use to help you kick butt and take names. So this list is dedicated to showing you the must haves your Titan, Hunter, or Warlock needs to protect the Last City, and make you look like a boss when you finally try multiplayer mode. It is time to find your new Last Ditch 001, Trespasser, or Gjallarhorn, guardian. Here are the eight best items that should be on your pickup list, and seven you can skip.

15 Best: A Gun That Shoots Blackhole Bullets

via powerpyx.com

In a weapon description, when you see the text “Think of space-time as a tapestry on a loom. This weapon is the needle,” you know you have something different on your hands. This gun is an aspiring mad scientist’s dreamy nightmare. It is an exotic void pulse rifle. Its stats are great: 360 rounds, high accuracy, stability, and handling. However, the remarkable part about this gun is not in the numbers; it's about what it can do. It shoots three-shot bursts, where the third shot’s damage increases. Once an enemy is killed with this gun, it turns into a black hole that destroys anyone around it. This thing is Einstein and Rambo all in one modern and gorgeous rifle. The sound will become music to your ears as you mow through the Fallen or Vex.

14 Worst: The Riskrunner Isn’t Worth The Gamble

via gamegeek.me

We are all about taking risks, and Destiny 2 allows you to do this, whether it is picking your weapons or whether you decide to go it alone. However, some aren’t worth it. The Riskrunner is an exotic submachine gun that allows players to take damage from enemies who use electric attacks against them and turn the attack right back at the enemy. This does seem kind of cool, but it is a gun that requires you to take damage to reap the benefits of the perk. Also, the range is not all that great. This makes the gun circumstantial. Couple this with the fact that it is presented as an exotic with the Sunshot and Graviton Lance. The abilities of these guns completely overshadow the Riskrunner. Don't place your bets on this one.

13 Best: Solar Energy Or Solar Weaponry?

via destiny.wikia.com

Who knew that war could also “go green?” The Sunshot is another exotic hand cannon you can pick up in the Homecoming mission in story mode. It has excellent handling, good impact, and the ability to fire explosive rounds. However, like the Graviton Lance, the story does not end there. This gun contributes to the environment by turning enemies into solar energy upon their demise. Imagine taking care of a city’s power grid on 150 rpm. A recent trend in the Destiny universe is their penchant for incorporating science not only into their stories but also in the items players use. The inner geek in you will yelp in excitement as you eliminate enemies with the same principle you used to win the science fair in fifth grade.

12 Worst: Unlucky Pants

via powerpyx.com

Destiny 2, much like its predecessor, is a game of intergalactic wars and protecting the fate of humanity. You travel from planet to planet to defeat the fallen enemies and bring balance back to your slice of the galaxy. This is serious business, but who would have guessed that Bungie also likes to have a little fun, even in the midst of a story about saving the lives of humanity. A piece of Hunter exotic armor is called Lucky Pants. Seriously? For those looking for a serious piece of armor, this one is not so lucky. It decreases the amount of time it takes to pull and use a hand cannon. While this is great in theory, what if you do not use hand cannons? The best armor works for a larger portion of your weaponry.

11 Best: The Merciless Boss Killer

via powerpyx.com

Let’s take a trip back to Destiny 1, remember the pain that was Oryx in the Taken King, and how you had to battle him to near perfection to win? Or how you had to overcome your crippling arachnophobia to take on Aksis? Well, Destiny 2 is here to save you from those long and draining boss fights with Merciless. It is a solar fusion rifle that is built for the long haul. This piece of battle perfection charges with every non-lethal hit on an enemy until you finally kill them. So, this gun gets stronger the longer you fight an enemy and releases maximum damage on the final kill. This screams “use me,” in a boss fight. Don’t say that Bungie isn’t trying to help you out a little.

10 Worst: Beware Of The Ward Cliff Coil

via mein-mmo.de

The Ward Cliff Coil is an exotic rocket launcher. Many have been calling this gun the Gjallarhorn 2.0, but this may be more of a hope than reality. While it is great to have the ability to launch rockets due to the Mad Scientist perk, there are still questions as to if this gun can actually be called the “heir apparent” to the Gjallarhorn. As a result of the gun shooting a “volley of rockets,” the shots are a bit randomized which makes it difficult to hit a target at a far range or take down one that is moving. It also may cause enemies to lift into the air which prevents you from following up on an attack. This gun requires you to get in such close range for success that it defeats the purpose of using a rocket launcher.

9 Best: An Armor USB Charger

via d2.destinygamewiki.com

Normally, fangs are bad. This is a general consensus among most human beings. This is why we all hate spiders, snakes, bats and anything else that can insert some sort of sharp tooth-like material into us. However, as Destiny seems to always do, they can turn even the most horrible thing into something cool. The Doom Fang Pauldron is an exotic armor for the Titan class, and it acts as an ever present charger for your shields. It keeps them at the ready for when you need them. It’s almost like you have an automatic USB port that is always charging your phone, except they are majestic-looking purple fangs. Did we mention that the armor looks like you have horns made of purple diamonds? On that alone, you should grab these.

8 Worst: No Love For Sturm

via gamona.de

Imagine that your family decided to get together and buy you your dream car (suspend disbelief for this one), and it is everything you would want. It has the aesthetic and handling you desire. You smirk because you are composing the most envy-inducing Facebook post to let the world know about your awesome car. However, you discover that the inside holds a subpar motor and that the body is the only thing resembling the car you wanted. This describes the Sturm gun. It is a beautiful gun, but one whose benefits are only realized by using it in conjunction with another. You have to switch between this gun and the Drang to increase your precision, which is said to be minimal. This prevents you from using another gun in the midst of battle because if you do the perk count will zero out.

7 Best: Ain’t Nothing Sweet About This Business

via destiny.wikia.com

Sweet Business is an exotic auto rifle. Not only does this gun make a Titan look like a serious “tough customer,” it has the perks to boot. Its accuracy is unparalleled, and it loads ammo as you pick it up. Therefore, you never have to waste precious seconds to stop and reload this gun. You can stand in one spot and take out as many enemies as you can without feeling the need to always be on the run. Let’s rephrase that in the spirit of this weapon, you can take your “sweet ol’ time,” being the demolition man. It deals 200 damage and can shoot 360 rpm. Every action movie franchise is calling, and they want this gun for their rugged anti-hero.

6 Worst: The Underwhelming Sunbracers

via d2.destinygamewiki.com

This is exotic armor for the Warlock Class and compared to the helmet and chest armor you have the choice of selecting in the first exotic encounter called Riptide, it is pretty underwhelming. The only major perk it offers is an increase in the effect time of grenades. This is circumstantial because you might not be the “grenade-type.” This is like a soda foundation that only gives you one flavor. The best armor and perks benefit as many different weapons or abilities as possible. There are two exotic grenade launchers, The Fighting Lion and The Prospector, so essentially this could only be used in conjunction with those or any other non-exotic grenade related items you may find. If you want a little more variety, you may want to look elsewhere.

5 Best: Hunters, Go Crazy!

via powerpyx.com

Hunters have all the fun and insanely cool gear! The Raiden Flux is exotic armor that can is obtained on the Riptide Moon Mission on Titan. This thing is a powerhouse for those looking to last awhile in raids. This gear has two special abilities: it increases the damage amount of the Arc staff as time goes on in the battle, and causes abilities to recharge faster when using an Arc subclass weapon. It is the Merciless in armor form. Imagine wearing a bullet proof vest that makes the bullet’s in your gun more powerful, and your sense keener. That is the primary function of this armor. Considering the other choices you have when you are offered this exotic weapon, this one definitely seems like the cream of the crop.

4 Worst: Skip These Gauntlets

via destiny.wikia.com

The ACD/0 Feedback Fence gauntlets increase melee speed and replace super energy when you kill an enemy in a melee attack. Granted, these may be one of the coolest looking gauntlets in the game. They are sleek, modern, and look as if they were taken straight from Tron: Legacy. Unfortunately, this is where the cool factor ends. These gauntlets are not going to help you in a boss fight or intense raid. For enemies with a level 30 and above it will take them down to half health, but it is virtually useless on anything above a tier-2 because of the low damage it causes. They only compliment a play style of someone who is used to being in close quarters with enemies. In player versus player situations, they will only deal significant damage to someone if they are also engaging in a melee fight with you and are at 100 percent health.

3 Best: These Boots Are Sooo This Season

via gamesradar.com

So far, the focus has been solely on guns and armor. It is easy to forget about how important footwear can be in this game, which is why we are bringing it up now. One of the most frustrating things is when you are unable to get enough “air” or distance between you and your enemy. If you are a Hunter (seriously, these guys are balling out in this game), this can change. Titans and Warlocks can catch some serious “air” with their jumpers, but the STOMP-EE5 boots allow Hunters to jump almost twice as high than the other classes. This is ideal for getting away from enemies or reaching areas no other class will be able to reach. Nike, Addidas, and Jordan are taking notes.

2 Worst: You Are Thrown To The Wolves In The First Few Minutes

via leviwastaken.deviantart.com

While many of the guns and armor on this list are not necessarily the best choices in the game, they do not compare to what you are given in the first few minutes of Destiny 2. Without revealing any major plot points, you are in a catastrophic situation, one where you could use some firepower to survive, but this is all you receive, the gun Traveler’s Choice that only deals ten damage, and a scorched vest. This is it! You are virtually facing an apocalyptic scenario, and do not have a weapon with the means of defending yourself. This is the equivalent of making armor out of cardboard and using a broom to defend yourself against the zombie horde. Bungie is letting you know up front that this journey will not be an easy ride.

1 Best: The Three Blind Mice Will Grant You Invisibility

via imgur.com (sionat)

Nicknamed after the nursery rhyme, “Three Blind Mice,” because of the animal’s appearance on the side of the gun is where the fun and games stop when it comes to this weapon. It is an exotic sidearm with increased stability and handling speed. It has two major claims to fame: if paired with six other team members who also have the gun it becomes ridiculously more powerful, another boss killer. The second one is that right after you empty the round and stop to reload it, it will grant temporary invisibility to protect you while you reload or decide to get the jump on an enemy undetected. It is only for a few seconds, but in a game like Destiny, seconds feel like minutes. Lay a trap to capture this rat.
