It’s official: the Trials of Osiris return to Destiny 2 in Season of the Worthy.

For most of the current season, Destiny 2 players have been hard at work farming Polarized Fractiline and donating it to something called the Empyrean Foundation. Yesterday, the required 9,777,777,700 bundles of Fractiline were finally provided and the Empyrean Foundation was set. With the Lamp of Osiris lit, Bungie released a preview video of what to expect in Season 10.

It was clear from the moment the video dropped that a beloved PvP game mode from Destiny 1 was finally about to return. The Trials of Osiris are coming back.

For those that are new to Destiny, Trials of Osiris was a PvP-focused game mode that pitted teams of 3 against one another for unique rewards. The Trials were a “stressful, high-stakes” activity, that Destiny 2 Game Director Luke Smith acknowledges had been missing from the game since its inception.

But now Trials are set to return in Season of the Worthy.

Things will be different from Destiny 1, however. While the weapons and armor from the first game will be updated for Destiny 2, the fact Trials will now be power enabled has some players concerned. One notes that if the seasonal artifact provides power advantages in Trials, then players that simply farm XP all season will have a vast advantage over players that only play Destiny 2's PvP game modes.

Bungie assures players in their video that they've spent most of the current season testing Trials to ensure that the PvP combat remains fair and balanced.

Along with what will undoubtedly be a Crucible-focused balance pass on character abilities, Bungie is bringing back three classic maps from Destiny 1 for the Trials of Osiris, including Cauldron, Exodus Blue, and Anomaly. Trials armor will also return and even glow when a player goes "flawless," which we assume to mean the same as it did in Destiny 1 when a player achieves victory several times in a row.

We won’t have to wait long to find out more details. Trials of Osiris return on March 13, although players will have to unlock Trials through some sort of quest (perhaps related to Osiris mouthing off against Rasputin). Season of the Worthy begins on March 10.
