Bungie plans to make real-life Hive Relic Swords and sell them to anyone who finishes the new Pit of Heresy dungeon in Destiny 2.
Well, they're real in the sense that they physically exist, but we'd hesitate to call them a "sword." They're foam replicas of the jagged, almost rock-like blade you can wield in-game to shatter Hive shields and make bosses vulnerable to stabbing. They kill Crota nicely, but shouldn't shatter your table.
However, you can't simply buy one. You technically can purchase one, but you'd have to shell out $777,777.77. In order to get the real price, you have to beat the new Pit of Heresy dungeon that was just added in the latest Shadowkeep expansion. We hear that the Pit of Heresy is full of exciting traps and dangerous baddies, so this isn't going to be a walk in the park.
In addition to the various rewards for completing the dungeon (which should include a Pinnacle-tier reward), Bungie will send you a code for their store. This code will drop the price on the Relic sword to a mere $159.99, which brings it into the realm of possibility for normal people and not just video game-loving billionaires.
The replica Relic Sword is made in partnership with Calimacil, who makes all sorts of period costumes and LARP tows. That's Live Action Role Play for the uninitiated. Those are folks who like to dress up in costume and play D&D for realsies in the woods.
However, Bungie is quick to point out that this is NOT a toy and it is NOT suitable for LARP. The foam is too tough and brittle and won't survive full-on combat.
You've got a bit of time to get the Pit of Heresy done with. The deadline to purchase one of these bad boys is December 31st at 11:59 PM, at which point you'll be able to ring in the new year in the same way you ring Crota's bell.
Deliveries will take 3-4 months and will be based on the order in which purchases are received. So if you've got a cool $800 grand to spend now, then you can get one before anyone else.
