From the picture below, we can see that Burger King is giving out toyed featuring Loudred, Bulbasaur, Detective Pikachu, Growlithe, Psyduck, and Mewtwo. The selection is definitely interesting. Pikachu and Mewtwo were expected. Bulbasaur is iconic, and who doesn't love Growlithe? Psyduck has been made especially popular thanks to early episodes Pokémon, and appears to have a notable role in the movie. However, Loudred is unexpected, especially since Charizard, Aipom, and Mr. Mime have had more prominent appearances in the trailers. Still, young and older fans alike will be storming Burger Kings to catch 'em all in anticipation of Detective Pikachu's release next month.
The movie has gained plenty of positive traction. After the release of its first trailer, fans knew that Detective Pikachu would be an interesting movie. Photorealistic Pokémon? A talking Pikachu who happens to be a world class detective? It was certainly an unexpected decision to adapt the Detective Pikachu into its own movie.
Recently, we got our first look at Gyarados. Before that, many other notable Pokémon were confirmed to appear in the movie. It seems like Pikachu will be in a cage fight against Charizard and Greninjas will be working with the antagonist. It also seems like Mewtwo will have an important role.
Detective Pikachu has been met with positive reactions from fans, with many believing that it has the unique opportunity to break what has been dubbed by some as "the video game movie curse." The two major recent video game movies, Tomb Raider and Rampage, were not critically successful. Tomb Raider sits at 52% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Rampage sits at 51%. Detective Pikachu might be the first well-received adaption that will hopefully pave the way for a bright future for video game adaptations.
Detective Pikachu will be coming to theaters on May 10, 2019. In the meantime, you can head down to your local Burger King to pick up some limited toys.
