Devil May Cry is a series that has become known for its huge combat sequences that offer players the chance to take down huge swathes of enemies with a collection of truly outrageous weapons. This is why we decided that we wanted to write something about all of the weapons that can be used in Devil May Cry 5. With there being three characters open to the player, it's no surprise that between them, there are quite a few for us to go through and take a look at, which is exactly what we've done.

However, we're not just going to simply list them here, but we're going to rank them from worst to best, letting people know exactly how we feel about the new weapons that Devil May Cry 5 has offered up to us. We're going to go through every single one of them, so people who haven't played the game yet can take a look at just which weapons they should be looking forward to using the most! Those who have played it already can see whether or not they agree with our ranking!

So, it's about time that we got down to it and took a look at the weapons that can be used in Devil May Cry 5. Unlike a lot of other games out there, this is a franchise that lives on having weapons that keep players coming back, so expect to see some things that are absolutely insane before we get to the end of this list!

20 Cane

via: gamecrate.com

We know that this thing has some interesting powers, offering people the ability to teleport to enemies for example, but it's mainly just there to finish anyone off that hasn't been taken down by some of V's various other attacks. This man has got a lot of stuff hidden behind the mask, offering him the option to pull out some serious moves so it's no surprise that the cane he's carrying around doesn't do too much for him. That being said, it's a shame that this guy doesn't get to wield the same sort of power that the other two characters do!

19 Shadow

Even though we really like the fact that this weapons allows V the ability to move a lot faster, something that people should always be trying to do while playing a Devil May Cry game, it doesn't change the fact that his shadow attacks just don't have the same sort of oomph as many of the other weapons on offer. Don't get us wrong, the shadow moves certainly get the job done when they need to, but there's something about them makes them feel lacking in power, which is definitely a failure when playing a Devil May Cry game!

18 Kalina Ann

via: technogamebrasil.com

Nobody is denying that this thing has some serious power, which can be important at different times throughout the game, but that doesn't change the fact that it is incredibly slow, especially when compared to some of the other weapons on this list. We've already talked about the fact that one of the main parts of this game is that it's important to feel like there's a lot of speed behind the character, that it's almost as if we're gliding through the game, stylishly taking the world on! There is nothing stylish about this brute force projectile...

17 Coyote-A

Okay, so despite the fact that this thing kicks hard and does feel very cool to use, it doesn't change the fact that it's way to slow and cumbersome to use in a Devil May Cry game. Just like the weapon above, it can be used to great effect when a player needs to smash an enemy to pieces with a lot of firepower at close range, but outside of that specific set of circumstances we can't see why anybody would choose to use this weapon over the standard pistols that are on offer. Use it from time to time to see how it feels but then put it away until it's really needed.

16 Balrog

via: ign.com

Look, we're not going to say that these things aren't fun to use, because they definitely are, we just didn't find that they made us feel as swift as some of the other weapons, meaning that they've come in lower on the list than we're sure a lot of people will be happy with. For us, they just don't exemplify what Devil May Cry is about, and feel almost as if they were brought along because they've been a fan favorite for quite some time now, rather than because they actually deserve to be in the weapon roster with some of the other greats we have here.

15 Swordmaster

via youtube.com

This is widely considered to be one of the easier style that is open to Dante, offering new players a chance to take on the gameplay, but this does also mean that it doesn't feel as good for players that are well beyond the likes of a beginner! It's usually used to create very long combos while also offering a chance to use up close melee moves that inflict a lot more damage than many long-range weapons do, so it's definitely one that we'll all be using during the game, but that doesn't mean that we will enjoy the fact that we have to!

14 King Ceberus

While we didn't enjoy this weapon the first time we were let loose with it in the franchise, we have to say that Devil May Cry V has made this weapon a pleasure to use, but it's certainly not the best weapon in the entire game still, not by a long-shot, which is why it's still pretty low on the list. However, we really did have a love of fun with them as they offered us some quick and stylish moves to use against the many enemies we came up against, while also being able to pack a punch when it came to stronger enemies!

13 Ebony & Ivory

If there's any recognizable icon that immediately gets people thinking about the Devil May Cry franchise it's these two weapons, the things that have kept Dante safe ever since he swaggered onto our screens all those years ago. It's no surprise that these things don't do loads of damage, what with the fast speed at which they fire, but it doesn't change the fact that they are one of the most enjoyable weapons to use in the entire game. However, there are better weapons out there, so we've still got a long way to go until we see the best that has to offer!

12 Blue Rose

via: ign.com

A gun that can fire two bullets at the same time is just the sort of ridiculous thing that we have all come to expect from the Devil May Cry series. While it's not as fast as Ebony & Ivory, it does have a special charge up mode of its own and it is amazing at taking on enemies that are farther away, which can be a real help. What we're saying is, this is the sort of weapon that we have come to expect from Devil May Cry and we definitely have a soft spot for it in a lot of ways, so we're going to place it right here in the list!

11 Royalguard

We don't often think of defense when we think about this franchise, as it's all about going right up against the enemy and trying to take then on with speed and damage. However, this style is all about offering people the chance to properly defend themselves, and if the player gets it right then they will suffer no damage and be able to build up their ability to actually counter an enemies moves rather than just tank them! We've put it fairly low because, it's just not as fun as being able to bash the enemies heads in instead!

10 Cavaliere

via youtube.com

There are certain moments that make us so happy that we play video games, that we actively take part in this medium that seems to be able to get away with so much more than others. What we're saying is, when we saw that there was a weapon in this game that was a motorbike that could be split into two and then duel-wielded to take down the enemy, we knew that it would be the weapon we'd be most looking forward to using at some point. Sure, it has its problems as well, but who cares when we can literally end people with a motorbike!

9 Trickster

via polygon.com

Rather than being a style that Dante has to cause some major damage, this is all about the fact that Dante's character is a tricky guy, a fun one, somebody that refuses to be put down by anybody else. Yes, this is the style that people use when they want duck and weave, keeping themselves out of the way of danger before quickly changing to a different style to set up a new combo. Out of all of the styles that the player can choose from, this is the one that best plays to the character, the one that show us just what Dante is all about!

8 Nightmare

With this slow but incredibly powerful summon, V is able to take on a lot of different enemies. There is very little this weapon can't do, as it is brilliant in most situations. Yet again, it can be pretty slow at times, but it makes up for that by being versatile and powerful. Plus, we have a lot of time for anything that is able to shoot laser beams at enemies before watching them disintegrate that enemy that we just pointed those beams at. Seriously, there is nothing cooler for a player than being able to pull off something like that!

7 Red Queen

via: ign.com

Coming up with a sword that can be revved like a motorbike is a stroke of genius, and while it may not look as cool to use as the other weapons that we've already mentioned , one of which is literally just a motorbike, we have to admit that it definitely is a better weapon than most. While a lot of Dante's weapons rely on people remembering the combos to manage doing a good enough amount of damage that they'll be able to get through a level, this sword offers players a chance to rev up their attack and do much more damage based on how much they've revved it up!

6 Gunslinger

via: ign.com

Despite the fact that they don't offer the same sort of damage as many of the other styles that Dante uses throughout the game, but we think it really gives the sort of gameplay that Devil May Cry 5 wants us to use, throwing everything at both the player and the enemy fast. It also allows for some very stylish moves, the sort of thing that the player can pull off in the air while keeping distance from the enemies, building up the sort of combo that a lot of people can't manage to pull off when they're playing as the other Dante styles!

5 Griffon

via: ign.com

We know that some people find it a little difficult to use this weapon, that controlling it can be hard for others, but we really don't care. Not only is there something very cool about a familiar that is able to shoot lightning at enemies, but the fact that the bird can then also fly V around with them shows that they're an incredibly versatile weapon. Once mastered, this familiar can be used by anyone to take on any sort of enemy that stands in their way, it just takes a while to get used to it at first. Despite the high barrier to entry, we're still giving it a high spot on the list!

4 Rebellion

via: ign.com

This huge sword has been with Dante ever since the first game, so it's no surprise that it continues to be an impressive weapon, one that people can use throughout the entire game. Despite its size, Dante is able to whip it around at his enemies with great speed and finesse, making it a perfect weapon for those looking to take out a demon or two. Throw in the fact that it was actually left to Dante by his father, therefore adding a narrative significance as well, and we have here is a sword that we can only assume will be in the next game in the series as well!

3 Devil Breaker

via segmentnext.com

Choosing to give Nero the choice of various different arms was a stroke of genius as it gives the audience choice, allowing them to tailor the character to how they want him for their own play style, which is always a smart choice as far as we're concerned. We have to put this so high on the list purely because of the huge amount of choice, the devil breakers offering more than any other weapon on this list. That being said, we're not going to place it at the top of the list as there simply are weapons that give the player a chance to cause more damage faster.

2 Devil Sword Sparda

via: amazon.com

Look, we're not saying that this weapon isn't powerful because it definitely is, and we know that it comes to Dante from his father which adds important narrative significance, meaning that some people would probably argue that this is the best weapon in Devil May Cry V. However, all we have to say to that is that it is known for vanquishing an enemy that went by the name Mundus... Just let that name sink in for a while because no matter how long we spend with it, we can't seem to get it out of our heads! Amazing weapon, with a hilarious history.

1 Devil Sword Dante

via: gamespot.com

Anybody that has played this game knows just how powerful this weapon is, and we don't believe that anybody could tell us that this should be right at the top of everyone's list. Handing a character this sort of power is great, as it gives the audience a chance to really have some fun and take on enemies that were a problem at first with terrific ease. Let's not forget that most video games out there are all about having fun, and it's weapons like this that prove there are still a lot of developers out there that want the people playing their game to have fun!
