Diablo 2 Remastered might be announced at this year’s BlizzCon.

Last year’s BlizzCon was… well, a bit of a gong show. While Diablo 4 was the talk of the town and widely rumored to be the big announcement, Blizzard pulled a fast one and instead announced Diablo Immortal, a mobile game that literally nobody wanted. It didn’t even look that good from the gameplay teasers they released.

And then there was the weird messaging with the whole “don’t you guys have phones?” thing that went over about as well as literally urinating on stage would have.

Anyway, this year things are shaping up to be different. According to a source who has been known to be on the money when it comes to Blizzard leaks, Diablo 4 and Diablo 2 remastered will be the big announcements at this year’s BlizzCon.

The news comes courtesy of Metro, an Overwatch Twitch streamer who has been right about previous leaks. Last year, Metro leaked the new Overwatch character, Ashe, just before BlizzCon started. This year, we’re getting told to expect Diablo 2 Remastered and Diablo 4.

Diablo 4 isn’t exactly a big secret; we’ve known about it for a while and have received credible reports of its development. Last June, a French publication reported that Blizzard’s French studio has been showing a build of Diablo 4 around the office. That was during the time when it were also told to get rid of 30% of its workforce, but we’re sure that it didn’t have a detrimental effect on the game.

Diablo 2 Remastered is a little more nebulous. Blizzard has been all about mining nostalgia of late, with WoW Classic and Starcraft Remastered leading the charge. Warcraft III: Reforged is also widely expected to be a big deal at BlizzCon, but we haven’t heard anything concrete about Diablo 2 Remastered.

However, as with everything Blizzard these days, it might not even matter. #BoycottBlizzard is still a thing on social media, and the company hasn’t done much to rehab its image after selling out its fans for the almighty dollar.
