Blizzard and Vicarious Visions have revealed how Diablo 2 Resurrected has been improved based on player feedback. The developers explained that they used player input during early alpha testing to enhance visual quality, as well as offer a variety of customizable accessibility options.

According to a blog post on the Blizzard website, Diablo 2 Resurrected will introduce several features designed to make the game easier to play, without impacting core gameplay. These accessibility improvements include auto-gold pick up, large font modes, UI scaling, and gamma/contrast settings to enhance readability. In addition, you will be able to have item names toggled on and off with a press of a button, or keep the original press and hold method.

As for the visuals, Blizzard explains that Diablo 2 Resurrected artists are aiming to improve the aesthetics of the original, while ensuring everything is familiar for veteran players. However, the devs have considered player feedback that some of the visual effects in the alpha release look dim compared to the original. As a result, the team has updated the effects used when casting certain spells - such as lightning, blizzard, and holy freeze. The artists have also updated the VFX for damaging and immobilizing monsters with poisons, spells, and other status effects to better capture the destructive force of the original.

Among other changes, a clock has been added, and some of the yep and grunt sound effects have been removed. Another major difference is the Shared Stash that will be extended to three tabs (100 slots each) rather than only one. According to Blizzard, many players felt one tab wasn’t enough, but now you can store many more items.

All of the quality of life improvements coming to Resurrected doesn’t mean the team is trying to fix the original or make it any easier. According to the project leads, the goal was always to make “an authentic remaster of people’s childhood” without any plans to change things dramatically for the new generation.

Diablo 2 Resurrected is set to launch September 23.
