If you happen to have your old save files from Diablo 2, the upcoming Diablo 2: Resurrected will let you continue playing with your decades-old character. That's right – Resurrected will let you jump right back in where you left off way back in 2000.
In a recent interview, producer Matthew Cederquist revealed the shocking news. "Back when we were working on [the remaster], we wondered if the old save files would work, so we kind of shoved it in, and it worked! So yes, your local singleplayer save files will carry over."
That's a pretty impressive feat. However, if you still manage to have your old save files lingering around your house after more than 20 years, that's arguably a much more impressive accomplishment.
Diablo 2: Resurrected is hoping to be a faithful recreation of the original that launched in 2000. Instead of reworking many of its systems for a modern marketplace, Blizzard is instead upgrading the graphics, improving network stability, and implementing cross-progression with other platforms.
However, there are a few aspects that are getting a modern rework. "When we first started working on the game, we wanted to keep all the gameplay aspects, like discovering the Horadric Cube recipes, or the deep itemization systems or the drop rates, and all the storytelling," said Abrahamian, game designer for Diablo 2: Resurrected. "But when we approach things like the art, we wanted to push it and modernize it as much as we could."
Diablo 2: Resurrected is yet to get an official release date. The game is currently running several technical alphas, as the team irons out issues with the single-player campaign before ramping up multiplayer stress tests. However, it seems that scammers have taken a liking to Diablo's popularity, as many sites are running bogus giveaways for the alpha – and stealing fans' info in the process. If you come across any alpha giveaways, don't fall for the bait. The only way to get an invite is through the official Diablo 2 website.
No matter how different things look when Diablo 2: Resurrected launches later this year, rest assured your geriatric characters from the past will be right by your side.
