It has been a little over a month since Season 21 began for Diablo 3, and now Blizzard has announced that the remainder of the season will see all bounties double across all platforms. The buff is similar to what we have seen in previous seasons and means that all Horadric Caches from bounty rewards from Acts I-IV completions will award players two caches instead of one.

While the bonus is always nice to see, it would have been better at the start of the season. As Horadric Caches contain both certain legendary items that are useful for use in Kanai’s Cube, as well as the reagents necessary to extract key abilities, these are often grinded out by players shortly after the start of a season before grinding Rifts and Greater Rifts.

For those dedicated players who are still attempting to climb up the Greater Rift seasonal ladder, the need for Horadric Caches is minimal by this point, though such a buff is still useful for casual players.

One reason for the buff may relate to a second piece of news that Blizzard included in this announcement, which is that going forward all PTR testing timelines before new seasons being will be extended by roughly two weeks. This will allow for additional testing and to consider the feedback from the passionate community of players.

Hopefully, this will result in more changes implemented prior to the beginning of a season, because as we have seen these last five weeks with the Trials of Tempests, some ideas are simply terrible. This has been the first season in quite some time that does not allow players to experiment with new and interesting builds, and in addition, group play currently boils down to stacking and sharing the seasonal buff over and over, which Blizzard is referring to as “working as intended”.

As a result, builds are virtually irrelevant this season for groups who are climbing the Greater Rift ladder, which is a real shame as players have now received a new class set for every single class, but there is little in the way of varied play due to the way this season has rolled out. The sooner that this season comes to an end, the better, and we have high hopes that Season 22 will bring back the types of buffs that encourage wild creativity to climb the Greater Rift ladder.
