Pokémon Sword & Shield might have scrapped half of the Pokédex, but fans are already working on replacing the lost Pokémon with something that looks kind of similar, as modders have started to add Digimon to the games.

The Digimon franchise was popular during the same time as Pokémania, but it never reached the same heights of fame as its more illustrious competition. Digimon has excelled in the video game realm, thanks to games that play with the formula of the series and try out new things, but these still cannot match the sales of the new Pokémon games.

The people who were upset that certain Pokémon didn't make it into Pokémon Sword & Shield can at least sleep well knowing that fans are modding Digimon into the game. A Game Banana user named Hallow has uploaded a mod that replaces the Charmander line with Agumon's line. This means that Charmander is replaced with Agumon, Charmeleon is replaced with Greymon, and Charizard is replaced with MetalGreymon. If the player uses the Dynamax transformation with this Pokémon/Digimon, then it will turn into WarGreymon as its Gigantamax form.

The mod only changes the character model for the Pokémon and doesn't affect the gameplay in any way. The Pokémon/Digimon will use the same animations and moves that already exist in the game.

The modding prospects for Pokémon Sword & Shield are exciting, especially as so many features have been cut from the game. Not only have people been restoring the cut Pokémon from the older games, but there have been numerous character customization options that have been added that can make the protagonist look awesome. The addition of the Agumon line through modding means that the door is open for adding other Digimon to the game through hacks. If the fans play their cards right, then there may come a day when creatures from Yokai Watch, Dinosaur King, and even Monster Rancher might one day make their way into the Galar region.
