Pokémon Sword & Shield's first DLC, the Isle of Armor, offers players a guaranteed way to get Hidden Ability Pokémon. This comes from the Diglett hunting side quest, where an Alolan traveler somehow loses 151 Diglett. While the rewards seem modest at first - an Alolan Pokémon for every 10 or so Diglett - they are actually guaranteed to have their Hidden Ability. This makes them a valuable find, as Hidden Abilities are often hard to come by.

For anyone who hasn't started Isle of Armor yet, or has been ignoring the quest so far, an Alolan Diglett will block your path as you first visit the Master Dojo. Its owner will then task you with finding his other 150 Alolan Diglett. They're hidden all throughout the island, and you have to spot their three little hairs sticking out of the ground. Interacting with the Diglett sends them back to their master, and visiting the master over by the dojo will prompt him to reward you with a Pokémon. The Pokémon he gives you are as follows:

  • Find 5 Diglett: Alolan Meowth
  • Find 10 Diglett: Kanto Slowpoke
  • Find 20 Diglett: Alolan Vulpix
  • Find 30 Diglett: Alolan Sandshrew
  • Find 40 Diglett: Alolan Raichu
  • Find 50 Diglett: Alolan Marowak
  • Find 75 Diglett: Alolan Exeggutor
  • Find 100 Diglett: Rowlet, Litten, or Popplio (The same type as your Galar starter)
  • Find 150 Diglett: Alolan Diglett

All of these Pokémon will have their Hidden Abilities when you receive them, claims a Reddit user. Others back up the claim, and describe why this is a big deal.

Hidden Abilities are often a Pokémon's best ability, but previous games have offered no surefire way to get them. Sometimes players had to constantly battle a specific Pokémon over and over in the wild to get one with a Hidden Ability. Other times they had to be lucky enough to catch a special giveaway. Even in Sword & Shield, there's only a small chance to get a Hidden Ability Pokémon through Max Raids. These guaranteed Hidden Ability Pokémon are great finds, even if it is only a small handful.

The batch of Pokémon available with Hidden Abilities through the Diglett quest vary in usefulness, but there are some standouts. Alolan Vulpix will have Snow Warning, making it key to starting an Ice-type team. Slowpoke will get Regenerator with all of its evolutions, helping it serve better as a tank. More importantly, Hidden Abilities can be passed on through breeding. This will allow DLC owners to create more of these Hidden Ability Pokémon to trade to non-DLC owners. And Hidden Ability Pokémon make for great trades.

Just ask for something fair, and not a level 10 Poipole.
