The Resident Evil series has been on the upswing ever since the release of Resident Evil 7 back in 2017. An excellent revival of the survival horror series, the success of the game resulted in the long-awaited Resident Evil 2 remake materializing and being pretty damn incredible in its own right. With Resident Evil 3 up next, what other series could Capcom be planning a resurgence of? Perhaps Dino Crisis?

First discovered by outlet Bloody Disgusting, Capcom has recently filed a new trademark for the Dino Crisis series. Whether this is to create new entries or simply hold onto the old ones (which can be purchased off the PSN on PS3), Capcom isn't willing to let go of its dinosaur-filled survival horror game. Considering the hot streak Capcom has been on, though, it's entirely possible that Dino Crisis is coming back in glorious fashion.

Along with that trademark were new filings for Darkstalkers, Mega Man, and Power Stone. Mega Man saw the release of its 11th numbered entry last year, so clearly Capcom intends to continue the success of the blue bomber. Those other two franchises, though, are curious. Darkstalkers kind of lives on through character Morrigan's appearance in Capcom crossovers, but Power Stone hasn't seen a release since 2006's PSP remake/compilation.

With development of Street Fighter V likely winding down after Champion Edition's release next February, could a new Darkstalkers finally be in the works? What if Capcom is looking to revive Power Stone with a proper third entry? This is all speculation, mind you, and it probably has happened simply so Capcom can continue to sell its legacy titles on digital platforms.

It's nice to think about what may be. Capcom holds some of the most cherished arcade IPs in the gaming world and fans have been begging and pleading for a return of a ton of classics. If plans aren't already in the works, this new trademark filing may indicate that Capcom is going full steam ahead on sequels.

Even if this is just guesswork, Capcom has made the first move in bringing these games back. Now we'll just have to see what 2020 has planned.
