Square Enix certainly knows what it does well and the Japanese giant has a bunch of RPGs in development, a couple of which seem a little easier to get out the door than mainline Final Fantasy titles. One of these is The DioField Chronicle, an entirely new entry, which was announced during Sony's March State of Play.
This is a tactical RPG that has some resemblance to Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It's a "deeply strategic RPG" that we discovered has a 'Teen' ESRB rating – for blood, mild suggestive themes and vioence – in May. Now we know when players will be able to get a chance to play it.
Square Enix and developer Lancarse announced that The DioField Chronicle will launch on PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on September 22 (via Gematsu).
Meanwhile, players will get the chance to give the strategy RPG a spin as a demo launches August 10. This demo includes The DioField Chronicle's whole first chapter and save data will transfer across to the full game should players decide to purchase it.
From Square Enix: "The birth of a new simulation RPG with cutting-edge graphics." The publisher describes it as an epic tale of war and honour that combines fantasy, medieval, and modern-day influences with a "deep yet innovative real-time battle system".
More on this SRPG: "The battles in this game are defined by swift assessment of battlefield conditions and issuing decisive orders that take advantage of your troops' strengths and weaknesses to gain advantage over your foe. Make clever use of a variety of skills, classes (troop types), and equipment to attack the enemy and complete your mission".
This new entry, and perhaps it will be a new series depending on how it successful it'll be, also has an interesting visual style since The DioField Chronicle uses realistic "diorama-style" battle scenes. Players can try it out in the demo that releases August 10 which should be available via all the major platforms.
