The long-awaited console port of Disco Elysium was announced at The Game Awards, and will launch in March 2021.
Disco Elysium is currently a PC exclusive, but next year that will change as the game has now been announced for PS4 and PS5. Many have been eagerly awaiting the chance to play Disco Elysium as it made quite a splash last year, scooping the most awards of any game during last year's Game Awards, and even landing itself a lucrative TV series. This port has been teased by the developers themselves, stating that the game would eventually come to consoles, likely in 2021.
Disco Elysium: Final Cut is an enhanced version of the original game, with free upgrades for current owners. The game will launch early next year, March 2021, although no specific release date has been announced. However, there is no word on Xbox or Nintendo Switch ports, with Disco Elysium: Final Cut only being confirmed for PlayStation consoles.
For those who haven't heard of the game, Disco Elysium is a unique RPG developed by ZA/UM set in a city that is recovering from a devastating war. You play as a detective with amnesia who must solve a murder, with the victim completely unidentifiable.
Disco Elysium sets itself apart with untraditional combat for its genre. Instead of hacking and slashing, you approach every situation by passing skill checks and dialogue trees. Instead of fighting hundreds of enemies, the game prides itself on letting the player approach situations however they please. You can be kind and considerate, or brute force your way through everything. Anything goes in the world of Disco Elysium.
The game was also praised for its writing and storytelling. With masses of characters to talk to and interact with, and voice actors for each one, it's a game that has an incredible amount of depth and gives the player as much freedom as possible. It's great news that it's finally hitting consoles, and hopefully, the game will come to Xbox consoles and Nintendo Switch sometime in the future.
