A series of sales led to the Xbox One coming out on top during the Black Friday weekend in the United Kingdom, with the Nintendo Switch hot on its tail in second place.

Black Friday was originally associated with Thanksgiving in the USA, but it has since become a major shopping event in other countries. The United Kingdom now has its own Black Friday shopping events, with retailers slashing prices all over the country, especially the ones that are based in the USA.

The Black Friday period was a huge boon for Microsoft, as the Xbox One was the best-selling console in the UK during this time. According to GamesIndustry.bizthe aggressive sales strategies of retailers like Tesco meant that Xbox One S systems dropped to as low as £110. The Xbox One went on to sell over one hundred thousand consoles through Black Friday sales. The Nintendo Switch wasn't far behind the Xbox One in terms of sales, but the system actually generated more revenue, as the Nintendo Switch systems were selling for a lot more than the Xbox Ones.

The success of the Xbox One bundles also meant that various Xbox One games entered the UK chart, with Sea of Thieves and Minecraft: Xbox Edition both taking the fourth and fifth spots respectively.

The Xbox One has lagged behind the PlayStation 4 during the current console generation, but Microsoft seems poised to turn the tide in the next one. Xbox Game Pass has proven to be one of the best deals in terms of price, with several brand new titles being added to the subscription service on the same day that they are released on other platforms. Microsoft has also been buying up studios in preparation for the Xbox Scarlett's launch, in order to ensure that it has the killer line-up of exclusives that the Xbox One lacked throughout its lifespan. The Xbox One is winding down its run and it makes sense that Microsoft would want to shift as many of the old units as possible in order get fans invested in preparation for the next console generation.
