Disney Plus was one of the things that kept a lot of people afloat during quarantine, nearly 90 million to be exact, and that number has seriously grown since the release of WandaVision.

Disney Plus was probably the most anticipated streaming service since Netflix launched as a digital platform back in 2007. Who could resist a platform that offered all of Disney, Marvel, National Geographic, and Star Wars? The platform was an instant success, providing heavy doses of nostalgia to millennials by offering shows like Lizzie McGuire and That’s So Raven for their streaming pleasure. What has really set Disney Plus over the top is their original content. The entire world fell in love with Baby Yoda when The Mandalorian premiered back in 2019 and the internet has remained abuzz about the slew of Marvel content coming up.

Not that it needed it, but Disney Plus has recently received a substantial shot in the arm with the release of WandaVision. In the span of a month, between December 2 and January 2, the platform got an additional 8 million subscribers. This recent influx has shattered the company’s original four year plan of 90 million subscribers. WandaVision is the first—and incredibly complicated and mind blowing—series under the Disney Plus Marvel umbrella, soon to be followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If…?. With Covid-19 keeping things locked down in some areas and big production companies relying on streaming services to premier their films, it’s likely that Disney Plus will continue to grow. Raya is set to premier in March on premium access and that is sure to give the platform’s numbers another bump.

If the numbers hold steady it is projected that Disney Plus will reach upwards of 250 million subscribers by the fall of 2024. Let’s hope the promise of these rising numbers will encourage the biggest studio in the world to keep churning out the good stuff!
