A lot of characters decided to leave Dreamlight Valley after getting affected by The Forgetting. During your time in the game, you'll have to work towards getting them back, which will require a lot of Star Coins. This is an in-game currency that looks like a gold coin, and there are multiple ways to get your hands on a ton of these.

This guide is based on early access content; therefore, information is subject to change.

Clearing The Thorns

Dreamlight Valley Clearing Thorns

As soon as you start playing Dreamlight Valley, Merlin will ask you to clear the thorns in front of your own house. This is also going to be the test of your magic. It turns out that clearing thorns is one of the best ways to acquire Star Coins during the early game.

When you're left in the world to explore at your own pace, you will notice that every area is plagued with these thorns. You can simply go up to these and press the interaction button to get rid of them after a small animation, and this will consume a little bit of energy.

Clearing thorns is a task that consumes very little energy, and you can also easily regain all the energy by heading back into your house for a few seconds if you run out.

This makes the game way more cozy compared to other similar games where you can't get energy back until the next day unless you eat.

Dreamlight Valley Special Coin Reward

There are a few rewards that you can get from clearing thorns, but each one of them will give you something. The most common rewards are seeds or eight to 12 Star Coins. Other than that, you can also get Dream Shards from some of these that can be converted into Dreamlight.

There is a rare chance of getting a special reward from one of the thorns. As soon as you clear them, you will see multiple Star Coins dropping nearby on the ground. You can easily get up to 100 of them from this. Although these are time-limited and will disappear after a few seconds, so make sure you get them fast.

If you're still in the early game and acquire Dream Shards, make sure you don't convert them into Dreamlight before finishing a certain quest from Merlin.

He will ask you to collect ten of these, which can be much easier if you just hoard them from the beginning.

Foraging

Dreamlight Valley Foraging

This is not the best method to get Star Coins, but because it doesn't take any energy, it can still be used in some scenarios. From the beginning, you can pick random items from the ground and some fruits from trees or bushes scattered across the valley.

These can be sold to Goofy on his stall after unlocking the character. After going around the map and picking up everything possible, you can easily get hundreds of Star Coins from them, even though this might be an annoying process. This effect can be made even better with the friendship system.

Whenever you reach friendship two with any character, you can select a particular deed for them.

Try to rush the friendship level for the character you select Foraging on, and you'll get a chance to get more and better items during the process if you're hanging out with that character.

Mining

Dreamlight Valley Mining Gems

Mining is one of the best ways to acquire a ton of Star Coins in a short amount of time. For this, you need to run through the edges of the valley to locate some stones that are in between the massive rock structures. These will have the color of coal on them usually.

You can mine these rocks using your Royal Pickaxe, and there's a chance of them dropping a random Gem through this process. You can also use the other drops acquired through this process to earn money. Both of these can be sold to Goofy on his stall.

You can find the Royal Pickaxe near the edge of the stairs leading to Peaceful Meadows. It's near Scrooge McDuck's shop sitting on top of some rocks, and you can simply go up to it and claim the Pickaxe.

Sometimes, these stones on the wall will have a certain Gemstone sticking out of them. These are rare, but you're guaranteed to get at least one Gem from them. Further, increasing friendship with a character who has the Mining deed will increase the chances of getting more Gems from this process.

Fishing

Dreamlight Valley Fishing

This is another way of getting Star Coins very fast. After a few minutes of fishing, you can easily get thousands of Star Coins. There are numerous places around the valley where you can fish, and the earliest ones that unlock are the ponds in Peaceful Meadows.

Sometimes, you will see ripples in the locations for fishing. You can still fish without them, but there's a chance of getting better fish with these. The ripples will disappear after you fish once inside them, but they might reappear after a little while.

Three different colored ripples can be found in the fishing locations, namely white, blue, and gold. You get better fish depending on the color, white being the least rare and gold the most.

Once again, you have a chance of getting double the fish if you're doing it with a character that has the deed unlocked. With a higher friendship level, you're almost guaranteed to get double the fish every time, which can greatly increase your Star Coins income.

As you progress through the game, you can unlock a building on the beach where one of the characters will deposit fish every single day. This acts like a bag where you get free fish all the time.

Farming

Dreamlight Valley Farming

Finally, farming is the one thing in the game that is good both for raising a character's friendship level and earning a ton of Star Coins. What makes this the best is that you can plant crops anywhere in the entire valley by simply digging with your Shovel and using the Watering Can to vitalize the crop.

All that aside, farming requires quite a bit of attention if you want to be efficient with it because the crops are already ready for harvesting a few minutes after planting them, after which you have to repeat the process. Further, it increases the character's friendship at an exponential rate.

The benefits of hanging out with a friend who has the Harvesting deed are phenomenal because they already start giving you extra crops even at lower levels.

Farming is already a cozy activity, and with this, you can make tons of money during it.

Carrots are the best starter crops to harvest. Carrot seeds can be purchased from Goofy for very few Star Coins, and one carrot sells for 44 Coins. Furthermore, carrot seeds are a common reward when you get rid of thorns in the Plaza and Peaceful Meadows area.

Why Star Coins Are Important

Dreamlight Valley Mickey And Remi House

Star Coins are one of the two main currencies in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and they're used for many exchanges. Here are the main places where you will spend the most Star Coins:

  • Goofy's Stall - While you sell most of your things to Goofy, you also buy a ton of seeds and other items from his stall using Star Coins.
  • Scrooge McDuck - After unlocking Scrooge's shop and the character, he will be your go-to place for everything furniture and wardrobe-related. This costs quite a lot of Star Coins.
  • Making Houses For New Members - This is the place where you'll dump most of your Star Coins. While you use Dreamlight to get some character quests, you will also have to build them a house in the valley to bring them in. This costs thousands of Star Coins for some characters. Furthermore, every building can be upgraded multiple times, making it a resource sink.
