When breaking down a list of the best Disney movies ever made, The Lion King is surely to get within the top ten. This African tale about a lion prince who has to accept what he was destined to do became one of the most beloved animated movies of all time. Featuring catchy music, impressive visuals, and standout acting, it's no secret why the film became so popular.

A lot of touches put into the movie were revolutionary for the time. The level of detail that went into creating the world helped to bring such a powerful story to life. Even the amount of research that the animators did was impressive.

That said, no movie is perfect, and that goes for The Lion King. While the story of Simba fighting his uncle to claim his rightful place as the King of the Pride Lands is always entertaining and compelling to watch, it does have its fair share of flaws. On repeat viewings, there are a few errors and plot holes that become more obvious.

Many of are fans of The Lion King, but we have to remain honest with ourselves about its problems. This doesn't reflect what we think of the overall film (we still have a lot of love for it); it's more of a discussion of the slight missteps it made. Get ready to take a different look at one of the best Disney movies ever created as we discuss 25 things about The Lion King that make no sense.

25 Why Didn't Mufasa Suspect Scar?

via pixshark.com

Right from the start of The Lion King, we get a clear sense that Scar, Mufasa's brother, has some awful intentions. He didn't show up to the presentation of Simba, his own nephew, and doesn't waste any time with expressing his displeasure of the child to his brother.

Eventually, Scar makes his move to end Mufasa.

When it finally comes down to it, Mufasa is so shocked to see his brother actually throw him down to his demise. Considering all of the events leading up to that day, Mufasa should've known that Scar would eventually try something to take his place at the throne.

24 How Did These Animals Know This Was Happening?

via eblcircleoflife.wordpress.com

At the beginning of The Lion King, we're treated to a powerful opening set to a glorious piece of music. The scene montages through different animals all traveling to Pride Rock at the center of the Pride Lands.

It's there that they all gather to witness the presentation of Simba: the son of King Mufasa.

Without a proper way of communicating across the entire Pride Lands, it's hard to imagine how all of them knew exactly to go to Pride Rock at the same time. On top of that, how did they all know to bow?

23 Why Are There Two Male Lions In This Pride?

via imgkid.com

One of the things that becomes more noticeable upon repeat viewings of The Lion King is that, of all the lions in the film, there are only two in the pack at Pride Rock (excluding Simba of course), and they are Scar and Mufasa.

This would suggest that all of the new lion cubs would have to be children of these two lions. That's not the only thing that stands out too. There are also only two lion cubs ever shown in the entire movie: Simba and Nala. If only the filmmakers had shown just a few more cubs or male lions.

22 What Really Happens During This Song?

via pridelands.eu

When Simba and Nala hatch a plan to go the Elephant Graveyard, they are unfortunately supposed to be headed to the Watering Hole with Zasu. Because of this, the two of them hatch a plan to get the bird off their back so they can head to the Graveyard by themselves.

Simba then executes his plan of singing a song about being king where all the colors and scenery change. Considering that things are still happening in the real world, the background suddenly changing doesn't make any realistic sense. All the animals making a pyramid doesn't make sense either.

21 Why Was Simba Allowed To Spend So Much Time With Scar?

via bingapis.com

In the beginning of the movie, Mufasa visits Scar to scold him for not showing up to the presentation of Simba. The evil lion has some sarcasm about how he felt awful for not going and then discusses how he was first in line to the throne until Simba was born.

It should've been clear to Mufasa that Scar wasn't exactly the safest person to be around.

That said, he still allowed Simba to hang out with Scar unsupervised. As we all know, this not only led to Simba going to the Elephant Graveyard, but it also led to Mufasa's demise.

20 Why Hyenas?

via fanpop.com

When taking over Pride Rock, Scar isn't working alone. This time around, he has the help of the hyenas from the Elephant Graveyard. However, Scar is ever only seen talking with three main ones: Bonzai, Shenzi, and Ed. The rest of the hyenas are just faceless names in a nearly identical crowd.

We can understand why the filmmakers would only focus on three hyenas, as they aren't the main point of the story, but it also seems a bit of a disservice, as we're never given any reason to fear these beasts. It doesn't help that the three hyenas are more comic relief either.

19 How Have The Lions Stayed King When There Are So Few?

via dettolddisney.wordpress.com

The lions are the ones who lord over Pride Rock, with Sarabi and Mufasa at the head. Going down from there, the lions have an organization that allows them to always be properly fed, maintain their borders, and intervene in scuffles when necessary.

That said, it's hard to believe how the lions have managed to keep their status, as there aren't that many of them.

When the hyenas take over the Pride Lands, the lions are massively outnumbered. It's a wonder that they managed to win the fight in the end without losing any lives to the dogs.

18 Where Did Rafiki Go?

via imgkid.com

Rafiki is a wise yet crazy monkey who first appeared at the beginning of The Lion King. He showed up to greet Mufasa and Sarabi during Simba's presentation. He was also the one who presented the lion cub to the rest of the Pride Lands.

Rafiki seems to have a profound relationship with Mufasa considering that he presented Simba to an entire nation. However, Rafiki isn't seen in the Pride Lands again until after Simba is a full-grown adult and returns to fight Scar for the throne. Wouldn't it be logical to assume that Rafiki would've popped in every now and again to visit with Mufasa and Simba?

17 How Does The Circle Of Life Make Sense?

via fineartamerica.com

One of the big messages of The Lion King is how all of the animals are connected through the great circle of life. The lions may eat the antelope, but that doesn't mean the circle ends there. When the lions perish, their bodies become the grass and the antelope eat the grass.

While we appreciate Mufasa teaching Simba to respect all life, there are a few flaws with the "Circle of Life" philosophy.

When lions (or any creature for that matter) perish, their bodies don't literally become the grass. If anyone is going to benefit from their end, it's going to be scavengers like vultures and hyenas.

16 How Did Zazu Not Catch On?

via pinterest.com

When Scar was executing his plan to end Simba and Mufasa, he had lured the King of Pride Rock down to the valley during a wildebeest stampede. While Mufasa was trying to save his son, Zasu was panicking, considering going for help. Before he could do anything, though, Scar smacked him against a rock and the bird passed out.

After Mufasa perished, Scar assumed the throne and brought the hyenas in the Pride Lands. However, Zasu never seemed to put two and two together. How else would he have passed out? Scar could've told a dumb story, but Zasu is smarter than that.

15 Where Do The Hyenas Get Their References?

via tzr.io

Part of why Pixar movies are so beloved is that they have an integrity to their world. None of the characters are going to make references to things in pop culture, because those things don't exist in their reality. That said, The Lion King doesn't quite follow that same philosophy.

There are a few times in the film where the three hyenas make references to things like cub sandwiches and Spanish words.

How they would know what these things are is beyond us, as they all live in a closed-off space in Africa. They should have no clue what anything is outside of Africa.

14 Why Are All Hyenas Evil?

via hollywoodsmotives.wordpress.com

Disney has taken leaps and bounds when it comes to having a diverse expression of characters. Movies like Zootopia pushed their entire meaning on making sure that one group of individuals wasn't stereotyped. Unfortunately, Disney wasn't always so good about doing that.

In The Lion King, all of the hyenas are portrayed as equally evil. None of them seem to have any redeeming qualities, as Mufasa refused to let them into the Pride Lands. Even at the end of the movie, after they ended Scar, they were once again cast back into the Elephant Graveyard. Simba didn't have a change of heart?

13 How Did Mufasa Know Where Simba Was?

via markb4.wordpress.com

Near the beginning of The Lion King, Simba and Nala went lurking in the Elephant Graveyard only to be met by hyenas. They were chased for quite some time before they got cornered by the savage beasts.

Just before they met their untimely end, Mufasa showed up to bat the hyenas around and threaten them to never touch Simba again.

However, we have a hard time knowing how Mufasa knew that Simba and Nala were both there. After all, Zasu did his best to catch up with them, so there wouldn't have been time for him to go back and get Mufasa.

12 How Can Clouds Speak?

via geek.com

After Mufasa's death, Simba was led to believe that he was the one responsible. Because of this, he left the Pride Lands for the undetermined future, where he stayed with Timon and Pumbaa. He put his past behind him and let go of the desire to become the King of Pride Rock once more.

As a way of restoring his memory and helping him find his way again, Mufasa appeared in the clouds to speak to Simba. There's a lot that doesn't make sense here. The stars are supposedly the great kings of the past, but it's never references that they were the clouds too.

11 Why Was Rafiki So Mean?

via aliimmam.com

When it comes to The Lion King, there are a lot of things that make sense in terms of the story. Once you start taking into account Rafiki and his dealings, everything starts to get a little less clear.

When Simba and Rafiki meet, the monkey states that he "knows his father," leading Simba to believe that Mufasa is alive.

We get that it hits home the point that Mufasa lives in Simba, but Rafiki behaving like Mufasa is alive and getting Simba's hopes up is almost cruel in a way. It does create for an extremely powerful moment, though.

10 How Did The Pride Lands Get So Barren?

via wikia.com

Scar separates himself from most Disney villains because he actually succeeded in his plans to take over Pride Rock. In the time between Simba leaving the Pride Lands and returning as a full adult did Scar take over completely. However, his rule had caused the Pride Lands to become a barren wasteland.

It's hard to believe that a change in one leader would lead to such disparity. Surely Scar would be smart enough to know how to run an entire kingdom, considering the multiple references to him being the more intelligent of the two brothers. It's almost contradictory.

9 Where Did This Storm Come From?

via disneytheory.com

After coming to terms with his past and agreeing to take the fight to Scar, Simba was ready to battle over the dominion of Pride Rock. The fight was extremely dramatic, and it seems that the weather knew it as well. It suddenly starting storming once Scar began drilling Simba.

The storm continued throughout the entire fight, beginning to burn the Pride Lands and create a more hazardous area for the lions and hyenas to fight on. While it did create for an intense final confrontation between Simba and Scar, it was far from a logical move. It was just a mere story convenience.

8 Where Did This Rain Come From?

via disneytheory.com

The weather in The Lion King should really get an agent considering how good it is at dramatic timing. After conveniently storming throughout the final confrontation between Scar and Simba, the Pride Lands was in flames. However, Simba eventually defeated his uncle and took his right place as the King.

That said, the flames didn't continue. The thunder immediately went away and it all started raining to wash away all of the destruction. We're also supposed to believe that, in a relatively short amount of time, Simba completely restored the Pride Lands to its former glory.

7 How Did They Fall In Love So Fast?

via fanpop.com

Simba and Nala were great friends as cubs, but Zasu told them that they were going to be married one day. The two seemed fairly disgusted by that at first, but the bird insisted that was going to happen. Much to their surprise, it did happen extremely quickly, in fact.

Simba was in the jungle with Timon and Pumbaa when, suddenly, Nala showed up looking for extra food and/or help. After she and Simba meet up again, they start fall in love in a matter of minutes, even going through a seductive song montage. That kind of love doesn't happen that quickly, especially considering how long the two have been apart.

6 How Did These Guys Get Here So Fast?

via pinterest.com

Simba has a moment of revelation after he talks with Rafiki and his own father. He decides that he is going to return to Pride Rock and challenge Scar for his rightful place on the throne. He leaves in a hurry without telling any of his friends and runs without stopping until he gets there.

Just moments after he gets there, though, Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa quickly show up right behind him. Considering how long it took for those three to have a conversation with Rafiki about what was going to happen, it doesn't make a lot of sense that they would get there.
