I’ll be real with you, dear readers. To this day, I still believe that the 90s were the golden age for Disney animated films. Sure, there’s a lot of recently fantastic movies like MoanaWreck-It Ralph, and Zootopia. But let’s reflect on some of Disney’s first films that broke away from the stereotypical mold of weak princess needing a man to rescue her. Beauty and the Beast showed an independent, fierce woman bravely protecting her father and saving an entire castle. Aladdin showed a male protagonist that wasn’t a prince and a princess that didn’t want the details of royalty.

A lot of 90s Disney films broke away from a stereotypical plot. And yet, there are some moments in these films that leave adult fans sitting back and thinking, “Hold on. This makes no sense.” Sure, we do have to bear in mind that these are Disney films. Animals can’t talk and magic doesn’t exist. Sorry for crushing everyone’s childhood dreams. But what about me of the more logical topics? How does nobody realize what a princess looks like when they run into one in a rather poor disguise? Isn’t Frollo a bad guy? And Simba didn’t want to eat Timon and Pumbaa?

These are just some of the questions we’ll be addressing today. Just know that as critical as this might get, I’m still a diehard fan of Disney films and writing this story doesn’t affect this fangirl. This changes absolutely nothing about my love and adoration for Disney’s creative storytelling.

25 How Did The Townspeople Never Notice The Castle Before?

via Disney Wiki - Fandom

So I know that this is explained in the new live-action film, but it’s far from touched upon in the 90s classic. In Beauty and the Beast, how do the townspeople just up and forget that there’s a castle nearby? That curse has been around for over 10 years, and you’re telling me that in that time, nobody else accidentally stumbled across the castle before Maurice and Belle did? That’s just completely illogical. That is, unless the townspeople just stay in their village all the time.

24 Why Didn't Tarzan Have An Accent?

via: pinterest.com

In Tarzan, the main character is raised by gorillas, knowing no English words whatsoever until Jane Porter arrives to his area to study the gorillas. Jane is very much an English woman. She has a strong accent.

Yet for some reason, Tarzan lacks this accent.

I get that he was raised by gorillas, but I would think that upon learning his first English words, he’d pick up Jane’s accent rather quickly. And you can’t tell me Tarzan’s parents were American. His dad’s mustache is very much something befitting an Englishman.

23 How Did Nobody Recognize Jasmine?

via Japanese Anime Wiki - Fandom

In Aladdin, Jasmine decides to escape the palace and explores the marketplace. However, her idea of a disguise is just throwing an old wrap around her to hide the fancy clothes she’s wearing. Even though anyone who looked hard enough would be able to easily see the huge gold earrings she’s wearing. What, did somebody just think those were a keepsake? Agrabah citizens are too poor to own those kinds of things, so why didn’t Jasmine think her plan out just a bit more?

22 Why Did Scar Not Have An Heir After Simba Ran Away?

via Disney Wiki - Fandom

In The Lion King, Simba left his home when he was about 10 in human years. He came back approximately seven to 10 years later, and as far as the pride goes, everything is pretty much the same, with the exception of Scar being the new ruler.

So you’re telling me that Scar didn’t get close to any of those lionesses in the time he was ruler?

We all know that wouldn’t actually happen in a pride. Scar would have so many minions.

21 Why Did Belle Stop Yearning For Adventure?

via Disney Wiki - Fandom

In the beginning of Beauty and the Beast, Belle sings about how she yearns for adventure and just wants to escape her provincial life. And yet, to me, it feels like she does the complete opposite of that by choosing to make herself a life with Prince Adam. Sure, lifting that powerful curse was all an adventure on its own. But I really hope the Prince lets her go on other adventures and doesn’t restrain her to the castle. Just saying.

20 Why Didn't They Have Better Security?

via Disney Wiki - Fandom

So I know that everybody thought the Huns were all ended in the avalanche, but wouldn’t you still want to have tight security at the emperor’s palace in the first place?

It seems like it was way too easy for Shan Yu and the rest of his crew to sneak into a dragon costume and a parade.

I get that disguises are supposed to mislead you, but security was tight back in that dynasty. The Huns should have been noticed immediately.

19 Ants Are Small, Right?

via Fanpop

We all know that ants are tiny. And in A Bug’s Life, it really does seem that way. That is, until the grasshoppers show up. The grasshoppers are pretty tall, but don’t you think they’d be gigantic in comparison to characters like Flik and Atta? And don’t even get me started with the circus crew. Flik looks like he fits in with that crew just fine in regards to his animated size. Ants are tiny, not even close in size to any of the other insects in this film.

18 How Does Buzz Know To Freeze When Humans Are Around?

via Disney Wiki - Fandom

One of the major plot devices of Toy Story is that Buzz Lightyear believes that he’s an astronaut on a mission to defeat Emperor Zurg.

He doesn’t believe he’s a toy.

And yet, if that were the case, why does Buzz still freeze whenever the rest of the toys do upon Andy’s arrival? Is this just because he fears Andy is an alien species that might attack him? But if that were the case, wouldn’t Buzz just try and attack him anyway?

17 Does Frollo Not Realize He's Already Ended A Person?

via Japanese Anime Wiki - Fandom

In the beginning of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Judge Frollo chases after a young gypsy woman with a baby. He forcefully pulls the child away from her, causing the woman to fall and hit her head on stone steps, leading to her end. Sure, it’s accidental, but wouldn’t Frollo be in some way blamed for her passing? I guess Frollo is the law here, so he can basically do what he wants. And yet, doesn’t he realize he is already going to the underworld and that there is no redemption for him? I’m just saying.

16 How Did Chip Stay The Same Age?

via Disney Wiki - Fandom

So it seems to me that when you’re transformed into a clock, teapot, or candlestick, the aging process no longer has an effect on you? Does anybody else realize that everyone is exactly the same?

More than anything, Chip’s case is the most confusing.

So was he cursed as an infant and he did age? Or was he forever 10 for quite some time? If so, how exactly did that all go for him? This is a question that I know will never be answered.

15 Why Didn't Jafar Use His Hypnosis More?

via YouTube

Is the job of royal vizier always so vacant, or what? I mean, really. How desperate was the Sultan in his quest to find a royal assistant that Jafar was his best option? Oh, wait. I just had a realization. But, that wouldn’t make sense. Jafar could’ve hypnotized the Sultan to become royal vizier. If that were the case though, why didn’t he just decide to immediately become the sultan? This is so confusing. If he wanted to be sultan so badly, I feel like he would already have the position at the beginning of the film just because of his hypnotic power.

14 How Does Pocahontas Understand English?

via disney.wikia.com

We all know that Pocahontas is an excellent film filled with many historical inaccuracies. John Smith speaks English. And Pocahontas speaks her native tribe’s language. It would be impossible for Pocahontas and Mr. Smith to actually communicate with one another without sitting down and trying to figure out a discussion.

But in the movie, it’s played off as if the two immediately understand one another.

Forget about history for a second. That’s just next to impossible in the first place.

13 Does Andy Never Notice His Toys Move Around?

via Pixar Wiki - Fandom

You know, after so many studies have been conducted on children, you would think that at this point, we’d all be aware of just how smart kids actually can be. They’re extremely creative and imaginative. So in this case, don’t you think Andy would notice whenever the toys were out of place? After all, I’m sure there’s been a couple times where the toys have slipped up and just laid down somewhere that Andy didn’t put them. I feel like Andy would be fully aware of something like this.

12 Why Did Nobody Ever Manage To Catch Aladdin?

via Energy 106

I’ll admit that as a kid, I had the biggest crush on Aladdin. He was charming, clever and very kind. Well, let’s go back to the clever. Is Aladdin really that smart, or are Agrabah’s guards so dense that they really never discovered where Aladdin’s hideout was?

It’s not like the hideout was in a secluded area of Agrabah.

It’s actually in the middle of town. So why was it so difficult to find Aladdin? Was he that fast that they could never catch him?

11 Why Did Simba Make Friends With These Guys?

via YouTube

Going off of how animal society works, let’s be real. We all know that Timon and Pumbaa would be chopped liver in the first five seconds Simba met the duo. Lions are carnivores. They eat meerkats and warthogs for snacks and dessert. Sure, let the lion eat bugs because this is a children’s movie and we can’t show Simba eating a gazelle or anything, even though we saw Mufasa pass. Disney, you make no sense at all. Also, I’m still scarred from Mufasa’s passing, so thanks.

10 How Are These Toys So Smart, Anyways?

via Pixar-Planet

I’m probably looking at this way too much, but how do the toys have such powerful knowledge? For toys made for kids between the ages of 2 and 8, they’re about as intelligent as adults.

They also seem to know about the outside world quite extensively since they seem to know what they’re doing whenever they leave Andy’s room.

Heck, if we even look deeper at this, how did the toys become sentient? This isn’t ever explained in the films at all.

9 Why Did Quasi Never Want To Leave The Tower?

via YouTube

This really reminds me of Tangled in that you have youths “locked away in a tower.” But are they really locked up? They have methods of escape, so why is it they wait until they’re teenagers or young adults to go explore the real world? I mean, wasn’t five-year-old Quasimodo really curious about going outside and exploring? Or did Frollo scare him so bad and traumatize him to the point that he refused to go explore? What exactly was holding Quasi back?

8 Why Wasn't John Rolfe In This Movie?

via youtube.com

Continuing off of what we said about her speaking English, Pocahontas falls in love with John Smith. Historically, we know that Pocahontas actually marries John Rolfe, which we kind of see in the film’s sequel.

Pocahontas ends up choosing Rolfe over Smith, which leaves me wondering why they didn’t just portray that relationship in the first film?

Wouldn’t it have been about the same circumstances with a very similar storyline? I think yes. It’d actually be very easy for Rolfe to fill the role of Smith in the first film and it would historically make more sense.

7 How Did Zeus Not Find Hercules?

via disney.wikia.com

Continuing off of that, we all know that Hercules was stolen and brought down to the human world, raised by an old farming couple. My only concern is that Zeus is a god. Was it really that difficult for him to find his son, even though he still possessed his god-like strength? Doesn’t Zeus have some type of radar that could alert him of gods’ whereabouts? You would think he’d have that kind of power, but apparently he doesn’t.

6 How Did Nobody Ever Look Down?

via: twitter.com

I’m sure that by this point, we’ve all seen that scene from Mulan. You know, the one where Shang literally grabs Ping by the shirt and glares at him. In all honesty, if Shang had just taken a second to look down, he would’ve noticed something quite shocking. To go along with that, I’m really surprised Mulan was able to keep her gender a secret for so long. I mean, don’t all guys just use the bathroom outside without a care in the world?
