A new Disney kart racer was announced during today's Nintendo Direct. Disney Speedstorm is an upcoming free-to-play racing game that will feature characters from popular Disney and Pixar films.

Developed by Asphalt creator Gameloft, Disney Speedstorm is a live service game designed for multiple platforms. The trailer revealed a number of characters that will be playable in Disney Speedstorm, including Mulan, Sully, and of course, Mickey Mouse. Each character will have different base stats that will affect their performance, as well as special abilities that can be used to gain an advantage in the race. Check out the trailer below to see all the characters and tracks announced for the game.

Disney Speedstorm is the most recent installment in a long line of Disney-themed kart racers, which includes Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour on PS1 and Mickey's Speedway USA on N64. The game features cross-platform support as well as split-screen and online racing.

Gameloft is one of the most prolific mobile game studios, best known for the Asphalt series, Minion Rush, Disney Magic Kingdom, Dragon Mania Legends, and Lego Legacy, Heroes Unboxed. While the studio's mobile games often fit into the typical idle game, pay-to-play format, it's unlikely that Disney Speedstorm will incorporate many of these mobile-centric mechanics.

No release date was announced for Disney Speedstorm, but players can expect to see it launch on Nintendo Switch sometime this summer.
