Long time fans of Star Wars know the story well. The original story focused on a young farm boy on a nowhere planet who dreamed of adventure, only to find himself in a race to save the galaxy from a ruthless empire and it's head enforcer, Darth Vader. He learned about the Jedi and the Sith, their power struggle that is nearly as old as time itself, and the power of the Force. He befriended a smuggler, a Princess, a Wookie, and some droids, and together they saved the known galaxy from the evil Empire. It was a heartwarming and fun story to tell, and it's become one of the world's most iconic franchises. However times are a changing.

The franchise spawned a prequel trilogy of films, television shows, comic books, novels, toys and more. However, in recent years, fans have noticed that the franchise has been putting out a new set of films that take place after the original franchise ended, and it's now flying under a new banner: Disney. That's right, Disney has bought and owns the Star Wars franchise, and fans have mixed reactions about it. Some love the new stories being told, while others fear how the Disney brand is portraying their favorite characters.

Well, today we are going to take a break from the serious debate and instead focus on twenty-five of the funniest memes that show the Disney vs Star Wars debate in all of its galaxy-spanning glory!

25 Darth Mickey

If you are a Star Wars fan, then you know that one of the most powerful foes to every terrorize the galaxy is none other than Darth Vader. Vader is the former Jedi Anakin Skywalker, Luke's father who fell to the dark side trying to save the woman he loves and instead destroyed the former Jedi Order. Serving the evil Emperor Palpatine and being severely injured in a battle with his former Master and friend Obi-Wan Kenobi, Vader wears a sinister mechanical suit and uses his powers to inflict fear and control over the galaxy.

However, in this meme, we see Vader is no longer the most powerful person in the franchise.

Now that the series is owned and operated by Disney, the most powerful creature in the room is none other than Mickey Mouse himself. Around since the beginning of Disney and the face of the brand, he now holds all the power over Vader.

24 Rat Race

Star Wars isn't the only brand to be owned by Disney. They also own and are partnered with Pixar, an animation company that has become one of the primary animation studios on the planet. Featuring films like Wall-E, Inside Out, and Finding Nemo, the company is known for their creative storytelling and lifelike animation. One film that has become beloved by Pixar fans is Ratatouille, a film about a rat with a taste for the finer things in life. He prefers culinary treats rather than garbage, and so he sets out on his own and teams up with a young chef to create some of the best food dishes in Paris. It's a fun film for the whole family, and yet in this next meme, we see it in a whole new light. In it, we see the film's poster turned into the Star Wars vehicle known as an AT-AT, with only the rat's head imprinted on the vehicle.

23 Snowmen On Hoth

This next meme does a hilarious job of bringing together two of the most popular films in both Star Wars and Disney.

Those films are Frozen and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

The first film follows two sisters, one a queen and the other a princess. The queen is plagued with ice powers that make her feel isolated and afraid, and she flees when her powers are revealed, forcing the princess to find her and help her. The second film is a sequel to the original film, following Luke and his allies as they continue their fight with the Empire. Minor spoiler alert warning! This film is notorious because, in the film's climax, fans are shocked to discover that Darth Vader, the series antagonist, is, in fact, Luke Skywalker's father. However, this meme makes light of both films by having Vader offer to build a snowman with his newly revealed son.

22 Image Issue

One of the things that has always bugged people over the years is how Disney seems to have a specific credential for their Disney Princesses. All of the Disney Princesses seem to be drawn as being stick thin, with no changes or focus on the various beautiful women of the world of different body types. It's been kind of a sticking point for a lot of people arguing against the ideals put forth by Disney. Now with the acquisition of Star Wars, a lot of people are starting to realize that several female characters in the franchise might be considered new Disney Princesses. One of these characters is, of course, Princess Leia. Already a princess, she is the leader of the rebellion and one of the strongest female characters in a popular franchise. However, this meme does a hilarious job of pointing out Disney's faults in forcing their princesses to be stick thin models instead of accepting them for who they are.

21 Let The Wookie Win

One iconic character from the Star Wars franchise is definitely C-3PO. The droid that can speak millions of different languages and has a knack for finding himself right smack dab in the middle of trouble became a legend himself, being forced into adventures with his friend R2-D2 and working with Luke Skywalker to learn information and tactics related to the war against the Empire. However his personality has always been more flat than upbeat or exciting, and with the recent acquisition of the franchise by Disney, his personality hasn't gotten much livelier. In fact, the lovable droid has gotten a sort of change in the recent move to the house of mouse, as seen in the first of the new films, The Force Awakens. When we finally get to see 3PO after all these years, one of his arms is missing, replaced with a bright red one, and fans made light of this, as seen in this hilarious meme.

20 The EU Problem

One of the biggest changes to come from the Disney/Lucasfilm merger was the loss of the Star Wars Extended Universe. This EU was the continuation of the Star Wars franchise, from the novels and video games to the toys and animated specials, these stories are known for their powerful characters and world building. However, when Disney bought the franchise they made the EU non-canon, meaning that they had no bearing on the main Star Wars franchise.

We've seen some characters like Admiral Thrawn make their debut in the franchise, but that is far and few between.

Fans have been clamoring for the EU to make it's way back to canon status, and this meme perfectly highlights Disney's view on it. In the meme, we see the scene where Anakin falls to the Dark Side, learning about a way to save Padme that the Jedi won't teach.

19 Animation Shift

The films were only the beginning. The original Star Wars film franchise may have cemented the franchise in history, but it wasn't the end. Far from it. After the prequel films ended, animators went to work creating a brand new series set between the films Episode II-III titled Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The franchise explored elements of the Star Wars mythology that no one had ever done before and made the show one of the most highly regarded Star Wars stories outside of the films themselves. However, after the show was canceled it was shortly replaced with Star Wars: Rebels. While fans loved this new series, it became apparent to others that it was a product of Disney's acquisition and didn't always have the same connection that The Clone Wars had.

18 Buyers Remorse

One moment from the prequel trilogy of films that stands out to Star Wars fans both old and new is the scene depicting Anakin Skywalker confessing to his love interest, Senator Padme Amadala, that he destroyed an entire village of sand people after he discovered they'd taken out his mother permanently.

This caused him to be filled with anger and grief, and he took out his anger on the people responsible for her demise.

It was meant as an emotional moment shared between the young Jedi and the senator, one which cemented their bond forever. In this meme, however, we take that emotion out of the equation as Anakin is replaced with Mickey Mouse, and Mickey makes a confession of his own. He has bought the rights to FOX franchises. It's a hilarious way of making fun of the recent purchase Disney made for FOX, especially their Marvel characters.

17 Note To Self

In this next meme, we get a hilarious glimpse at what Darth Vader has become under Disney. You see in the films, Vader was tasked with doing the bidding of his master, Emperor Palpatine. The Emperor would send Vader out to be his weapon against those who rebelled against the Empire. Vader was tasked with destroying entire planets, taking out politicians and soldiers who disobeyed or went against the Empire's wishes, and even bring powerful foes to the Emperor to be either turned to the dark side or to be destroyed, as he did with his own son, Luke Skywalker.

However, in this meme, we see Vader is getting some very different orders these days.

Now you can find Vader walking around Disney theme parks, taking pictures with young children and even signing their autograph books. He's even a featured attraction at Disneyland itself.

16 On Second Thought...

The man behind the iconic franchise is none other than George Lucas. The director and creator of the franchise, he created the very first film, and his company Lucasfilm took on the task of building the franchise into what it is today. Without George Lucas, Star Wars would have been just another failed science fiction film in the 70s. For years leading up to his retirement, he was confident that the franchise would end with him, destined to live on only in the memories of his past. However, the Disney brand had some very different ideas, and this meme hilariously shows the vast difference before and after the merger. While Lucas may have scoffed at his story being taken over by other filmmakers in the past, the vast amount of wealth he accumulated after the merger cemented his newfound belief that others could turn the franchise into much more than he ever anticipated.

15 Friendly Neighborhood Vader

As we previously stated, Star Wars isn't the only franchise to be acquired by the Disney company. In fact, before them, a blockbuster company was turned into an even bigger powerhouse. That brand was none other than Marvel Comics.

The MCU as it's known in the film industry follows the film versions of several superheroes from the Marvel Universe.

From the classic Avengers like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Black Widow, to newly acquired or popularized heroes like Spider-Man, Black Panther, or even Ant-Man. These heroes have become so popular that the MCU films are now the highest standard of superhero films to be made, with the DC Comics films often being compared to the MCU despite their very different superhero styles. In this meme, we see the hilarity of these two franchises becoming part of the same entertainment company.

14 Wrong Side Of History

While some of the older fans view Disney as this kind of powerhouse corporate machine that is going to ruin their franchise, other's view Disney as heroes who are reviving their franchise from the dead and allowing more stories to be told like never before. In fact, some argue that the newer films, in particular, are a major step up from the prequel series. Fans love the new adventures of Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron, as they fight Kylo Ren and the First Order. In this next meme, we see the hilarious way the roles are reversed and older generations of Star Wars fans are turned into Emperor Palpatine, trying to convince Anakin or undecided fans that the Jedi (or Disney in this scenario) are actually the villains here, when in fact they are the heroes trying to save a perishing franchise. In the world of Disney, fans know the love story that's as old as time itself is not Beauty and the Beast, but rather Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Since the company's inception and early days of animation, Mickey and Minnie Mouse have been together. Despite their fights and disputes, their love is the stuff of animation legend, and now you can't picture one without the other.

In this next meme, however, fans decided to showcase one of the downfalls for Disney of acquiring Star Wars.

You see, in the first Star Wars film, Luke Skywalker has a crush on Princess Leia, and in the second film, she even kisses Luke for good luck. Now we all know she really loves Han Solo, and Luke casually gives up his crush while he goes on his journey of becoming a Jedi. However, it's revealed that Luke and Leia are brother and sister, making it a bit creepy.

12 It's A Trap

Fans of Disney know the classic animated love story between the dogs Lady and the Tramp. The film depicted the classic alleyway scene, in which the two animals share a romantic dinner of spaghetti and meatballs while being serenaded under the moonlight. The dinner ends with a kiss as the two share a noodle. It's a cute and romantic moment for the classic animated film. However, this next meme hilariously combines this classic film's poster with the pivotal line from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. In this line, we hear General Akbar exclaim that it's a trap, as the Empire tries to destroy the rebel fleet. However, in this mashup, we see the film has become Lady and the Trap, with Akbar and the Lady set on the romantic date themselves, although I do think the General probably has more on his mind than spaghetti.

11 First Order Problems

This next meme is definitely one of my favorites in this article. You see fans of the film Frozen know the character of Hans. Hans is the handsome prince of a far-off land that comes to win the heart of the fair and beautiful Princess Anna.

He helps organize the search for her sister and leads the charge to find Anna when she goes missing.

However, in a pivotal moment in the film's climax, he's revealed to be the surprise villain of the film, coming to the kingdom to steal the crown by marrying into the family, with plans to take out the sisters one by one until he's King. His villainy knows no bounds, as this meme proves when they show a side by side comparison of Hans to Star Wars character General Hux, the leader of the First Order's armed forces who works directly under Supreme Leader Snoke and alongside Kylo Ren. The two look almost exactly alike.

10 Not A Test

One of the things Disney brings to the table is a large fan base. Not just for a particular character or movie, but for several characters and movies. Their company is one of the biggest names in the entire world, and the purchase of franchises like Marvel and Star Wars only grows their company in both size and power. One thing that fans worry about or suspect is that Disney uses subliminal messaging to get kids to buy products or film tickets for their franchises. You see children are easily manipulated at a young age, and companies have been known to use tactics to influence consumers or children into having their parents make purchases. It helps explain the rise of ticket costs as their amusement parks or the never-ending supply of Mickey Mouse ears that kids can buy. This meme hilariously explains how Disney is able to get away with this.

9 Say It Ain't So...

The fans reacted to the news of Disney buying Star Wars very differently. One group of fans were excited about the prospect of jumping back onto the Millennium Falcon and traveling across the galaxy once more, while other fans were super bummed that the family-friendly company was taking their science fiction heavy story to a new level.

This next meme captures the heartbreak in a hilarious way by introducing Stitch.

Not only is it ironic as Stitch himself an alien from another galaxy, but the film centers around a little blue experimental alien let loose in the galaxy, landing on Earth and learning the true meaning of family. In this meme, we see the adorable Stitch looking sad and glum as he learns that Disney has bought the beloved Star Wars franchise, echoing the sadness of older fans of the franchise and skeptics everywhere.

8 Carbonite Dreams

One of the most iconic moments in the Star Wars franchise is the moment Darth Vader freezes Han Solo in carbonite, a substance kind of like concrete. He freezes Solo in an attempt to test the machine and gives the smuggler to bounty hunter Boba Fett to take back to the nefarious Jabba the Hutt. Well, this next meme hilariously combines the use of carbonite with the very popular conspiracy theory that Walt Disney, the man who created the Walt Disney Company, had his body frozen and preserved until science could make him immortal. Yes, you read that correctly. Conspiracy theorists believe that he froze his body and has it stored inside of Disneyland park, waiting for the day where he can be revived and live once more. Well, the meme shows Walt Disney in his frozen state, but using carbonite from the Star Wars films instead of modern-day cryogenics.

7 Dark Side Of Disney

Fans around the world have a love/hate relationship with the Disney merger. While a lot of people love the new films and the one-off stories like Rogue One or the upcoming film Solo: A Star Wars Story, others fear the changes that Disney is implementing and also fear that their beloved franchise won't be able to survive or keep the same sense of wonder that the original films held.

The whole argument for or against the Star Wars/Disney merger can be quiet tedious at times. At the end of the day, we as fans get more and more Star Wars to either love or hate, but at least we get them. It could have all ended when George Lucas retired, or it could have become something more in line with the prequels than the original film's essence. However, these new films and stories being told allow fans to constantly relive their love and passion for the franchise, which is something that should be celebrated. After hearing non-stop about the constant hatred towards the new films and characters, it can make you realize that sometimes the Disney merger can conjure up some overreactions.
