After washing ashore on the beaches of Fort Joy, you will inevitably encounter a disorientated cat. Even with the Pet Pal skill, the cat cannot provide much information. For a while, this confused, lost little cat will become your pet companion during your stay at Fort Joy.

Unfortunately, this cat swiftly becomes a target. The Magisters will often try and kill this poor creature on sight. It can quickly become a personal goal to keep this poor kitten away from dangerous threats, heal them when injured, and perhaps even reload saves to bring them back to life. No one wants to see this poor animal suffer, and if you succeed in keeping them alive, you're in for a valuable reward once out of Fort Joy.

After you've assembled your team from the wonderful choice of Origin characters, you'll have likely done almost everything you can do in the horrid Fort Joy. You've perhaps teleported another prisoner to freedom and maybe battled giant frogs. But no matter what, you will have seen how poorly the Magisters treat everyone and will be tempted to enact revenge.

It is very common to set off on a murderous rampage upon Fort Joy, fighting every Magister you can find. Not only is this great for farming XP to help you with your upcoming adventure, but it is incredibly satisfying to rid the prison of all of its horrid guards. By the time you've finished, Fort Joy's prisoners can have a bit of peace, no matter how temporary that might be.

6 Set Everything On Fire

Your environment plays an essential role during any combat in Divinity: Original Sin 2, from puddles of poison to electrified water. But something that you'll soon notice in this game is how flammable everything appears to be. Countless fights will involve some part of the environment being ignited before long. Plenty of incredible Pyrokinetic Skills are available to help you speed up this chaos on the battlefield. Just be careful that none of your allies are in the line of, well... fire.

The most infamous example of flames getting out of control has to be during the On The Ropes Quest, which takes place at the Blackpits. Pretty much every player caught up in this inevitable battle will find that the entire location will be up in flames before long, especially with all of the Oil Voidlings sliding around the place.

5 Talk To All The Animals

Pet Pal is a tremendous talent that has become a must-have for everyone playing Divinity: Original Sin 2. It allows you to speak to every animal you meet during the adventure. Many of these animals will give funny one-liners or a simple clue for a puzzle you are stumped on. But plenty of animals have quests for you. For example, Buddy the dog on Fort Joy needs help finding his missing friend, or two cows on Reaper's Coast live in fear of a witch.

There are so many animals worth speaking to during your adventure. You miss out on so much content if you do not have this talent, so everyone always needs to make sure at least one person in their party can communicate with these wonderful animals.

4 Accidentally Heal An Undead Ally

During Character Creation, you have the option to play as an undead. This offers a unique experience to the game, as you navigate many situations where NPCs will likely be hostile if they see your true form. Even if you do not play as an undead, it is always worth bringing along the undead Fane on your quest. His story is one worth checking out.

Although it is fun to have an undead on your party, a common thing you'll very likely do at least once or twice is accidentally healing one of your undead characters. Even if you've played the game countless times, it is a very easy mistake. You might send a healing potion their way or use a regeneration spell. There is always that relatable regret when you realize you are damaging the character rather than healing or sometimes outright killing them! It's always a good idea to bring a poison barrel with you to ensure you have a good supply of poison for them to regenerate their health.

3 Wander Into A Fight That Is Far Too Dangerous

The Divinity series is known for its sometimes deadly combats. With its wide-open world, you can often walk just about anywhere on the map. This is great for exploration but will often lead you into dangerous scenarios you may not be ready for. Especially on your first playthrough, you are bound to be outmatched by some monsters you encounter. There are also plenty of ambush moments that catch you off guard.

You'll inevitably end up stumbling into a fight accidentally during your playthrough. Fortunately, you can often flee from those encounters if you're quick enough. You learn your lesson and head to a more suitable area to train up, ready to return and defeat the enemy for good later on.

2 Accidentally Skip Plotlines

There's a lot to do in Divinity: Original Sin 2. You have the big, epic main quest that stretches over various locations. Each act has a big map full of exciting places for you to explore and countless side quests to do. Your decisions will often open up different paths and stories for you to explore. Because of this, many can relate to the realization that you've missed a few quests here and there as you set sail to the following location, unable to return.

It is to be expected with such a big, sprawling adventure that you'll not be able to partake in every quest. There are even moments that have a time limit. If you do certain things, the quest will progress without you. It makes the world feel alive and immersive, but you might not even realize that you missed out on a fun side quest. Fortunately, with Divinity: Original Sin 2 being such an incredible and replayable game, you'll likely be jumping back in to explore everything you missed during your first playthrough.

There are often many ways to avoid conflict in Divinity: Original Sin 2. You can sometimes charm and persuade your way out of a deadly situation. But other times, you have no choice but to fight for survival. Combat can be challenging in this game, especially if you are under-leveled or are playing on harder difficulties. If you are stuck on a particular battle, having to restart repeatedly can get frustrating. But, this often leads to you getting creative with your tactics.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 allows you to discover loopholes for its challenges, even ones the game may not have intended. You might leave a character just out of reach of the battle area to snipe from afar with arrows. You could move objects to block an enemy's path before the fight begins. You might use the teleporter pyramids to bring the party in to save someone from an ambush. Crafting a unique solution to a problem can be incredibly satisfying, and you're bound to do it at least once during your adventure.
