Crossovers are the new thing in Dungeons & DragonsThe game is now a huge brand famous for its emphasis on imagination, so it's ripe for integrating the worlds and characters of other beloved properties. Even TheGamer has recently gotten in on the fun with experimental builds of Zelda and Witcher characters. Digital character-builder and overall game platform D&D Beyond also joined the party with a free campaign setting based on League of Legend's Bilgewater.

Of course, the branding (and official tweet) would rather us call Bilgewater a Legends of Runeterra location. For the uninitiated, Legends of Runeterra is a free-to-play digital card game based in the world in League of Legends. It uses the same characters as League of Legends, and the settings in the LoL lore as deck theming. D&D Beyond collaborated with Google Play (due to Runeterra's availability as a mobile title) to bring the Bilgewater setting to D&D. There's also subclass options based on characters like Miss Fortune and Twisted Fate. Best of all, the content is entirely free.

Those interested just have to visit D&D Beyond's website for Legends of Runeterra: Dark Tides of Bilgewater. There they'll find all of the content arranged into chapters like a D&D sourcebook. Chapters 1 & 2 describe life in Bilgewater, along with advice for translating D&D mechanics into Bilgewater. Gnomes don't exist LoL, for instance, but they make a great basis for Yordles.

Also in Chapter 2 are three new subclasses built to mimic the playstyles of LoL characters. The barbarian's Path of the Depths can turn a warrior into a deep sea terror like Nautilus. Miss Fortune is a fighter, surprisingly, as a Renegade that swaps out traditional weapons for a customizable gun. Finally, rogues can take a chance by becoming Wild Cards which use the luck-based powers of Twisted Fate.

Chapters 4 & 5 offer DMs some fun new toys to play with in the form of monsters and magic items. The magic items are particularly well thought out as they are literal adaptations of LoL items like Boots of Swiftness and Banshee's Veil.

The best part of all of this, again, is that it's free. That makes it a no-brainer as both an introduction to D&D for LoL fans (no extra D&D books are needed to run the adventures), and an expanded toolkit for experienced DMs. That said, there's no telling how long it will be available, so check it out while it lasts!
