Dungeons & Dragons will soon be making its debut in Magic: The Gathering in the new "Adventures in the Forgotten Realms" card set. To get players ready for this exciting crossover, Wizards of the Coast is offering up a free adventure for download. The free adventure, which will be a substantial mid-level campaign, will be available for free next week.

This is a fun departure from how the publisher generally celebrates new sets of Magic cards. In the past when a new set for Magic: The Gathering was introduced, Wizards of the Coast would offer some short fiction stories to establish the cards and the mood they would bring into the tabletop card game. However, with Dungeons & Dragons being a well-established TTRPG itself, incorporating a campaign for D&D players to use is a great way to get them involved and excited for this new Magic set. This new adventure will be for players level 8 - 10 and, according to Wizard of the Coast's narrative design manager Meris Mullaley, would consist of five adventures. Each adventure would be around 20 pages in total.

The new "Adventures in the Forgotten Realms" card set will introduce some fan-favorite characters from R.A. Salvatore's popular D&D series into the card game. These characters include Lolth, the Spider Queen; Dwarf Bruenor Battlehamer; and, of course, drow Drizzt Do'Urden. These characters are famous within the D&D world as they feature prominently in Salvatore's Icewind Dale Trilogy.

The set will also introduce some brand-new characters like Planeswalker Ellywick Tumblestrum and Nadaar, a Dragonborn Paladin. However, according to Polygon, those characters will not feature in the free adventures. Previously announced, the "Adventures in the Forgotten Realms" set will offer players set boosters, collector boosters, and four new Commander decks called Aura of Courage, Dungeons of Death, Draconic Rage, and Planar Portal, to be added soon.

Wizards of the Coast is hoping that this new D&D set will lure fans of the tabletop game into the card game. This is also a chance for hardcore Magic players to test the waters of Dungeons & Dragons, which can be a daunting task to take on if you are completely unfamiliar with.
