Jodie Whittaker regenerated into David Tennant on Sunday, ushering in the second Russell T. Davies era. And to celebrate, BBC has announced both a new logo and confirmed rumours that the show will air on Disney+ for those that are outside of the UK, meaning fans abroad can catch it on demand.The new logo is a revamped version of the classic 4th Doctor's diamond one, calling back to one of the show's most popular eras. That's perfect given that, next year, we'll be celebrating the 60th anniversary with three specials, airing in November. These will feature David Tennant as the 14th Doctor - not the 10th - and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. We'll also be meeting Ncuti Gatwa's 15th Doctor. You likely know him from Netflix's Sex Education.To celebrate the two announcements, Gatwa recorded a little video with the BBC, catching newcomers up to date with who the Doctor is, what the TARDIS is, and what the show is all about, while also revealing that he'd like his Doctor to visit Africa and Nigeria to meet the Orisha who are gods in Nigerian mythology. He'd also like to face off against the Weeping Angels - who he called classic, given that they're now 15 years old (let that sink in) - and the Beast.
The Beast, for context, was introduced alongside the Ood in the 10th Doctor episode The Satan Pit. He is a pre-Time-Lord villain who had been caged up when they grew to become one of the more powerful civilisations in the universe, but The Beast began to run rampant following their demise in the Time War. He was likely even the influence behind Earth's Lucifer mythology.
Doctor Who won't be back for over a year now but, in the meantime, Big Finish has announced audio dramas for Sacha Dhawan's Master and Jo Martin's Fugitive Doctor, so there's plenty to keep us occupied in the wait.
