Don't Worry, Black Ops 4 Battle Royale Will Have Zombie Environmental Hazards

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII will have zombies not only in their ongoing episodic storyline but also in its Battle Royale game mode.

We already knew that zombies were going to make their return in Black Ops IV. We didn’t even need a press release to confirm that one—everybody loves CoD’s zombie mode. It took the classic zombies gameplay and refined it to its very essence. Plus you got to play Call of Duty when you got bored of smashing zombie-heads.

As reported back in July, the CoD: Zombies storyline is set to continue with three new episodes that will launch with Black Ops IV: “IX”, “Blood of the Dead,” and “Voyage of Despair.” It’ll be a prequel to the regular Zombies storyline that wrapped up in Black Ops III where you saved the world and stuff. Only now, there’s time traveling and you have to save yourselves in the past to save the world in the future.

Confusing? Yes. Time travel usually is. Or has been. Or will be.

But zombies won’t be limited to their own specific game mode, as it turns out. According to a new report from Game Informer, zombies will also be coming to the game’s Battle Royale mode: Blackout.

CoD: Blackout will be an 80 player festival of violence where everyone tries to off everyone else—just like in PUBG or Fortnite. The big difference will be the distinctive Call of Duty theme and that includes its zombie heritage.

Unlike in the "Zombies" storyline, these zombies won’t be a massive horde trying to overrun the players. They’ll instead be in clusters of five to eight and act sort of like environmental hazards: they’ll get you if you’re not paying attention or are caught without any weapons, but otherwise, they’ll be pretty easy to dispatch.

There are pros and cons to killing a group of zombies. On the plus side, they’ll almost always drop some loot you can use to get a leg up on your competition. On the negative side, killing zombies means firing weapons and making noise, thus giving away your position.

Whether or not you go after those zombies is entirely up to you, but it might be a better idea to use them as bait to lure out the opposition. Just a helpful hint.
