id Software co-founder and Doom designer John Romero has returned to his roots, developing a brand new Doom 2 level specifically to raise funds to help Ukraine amidst Russia's invasion.

The level in question (as reported by Eurogamer) is called One Humanity, Romero's first new creation for the game since '94. It's available right now for €5 on Romero's website and all proceeds go toward the UN Central Emergency Response Fund and the Red Cross, humanitarian charities working to help those caught in the middle of Russia's attack on Ukraine.

But Romero didn't stop there. Newkid121 commented, "Thank you, John, for the donation to our country! I'm a big fan of Doom 2 and your work in particular, but unfortunately, me and my family spent a lot of money to supply for the upcoming days (I'm from Kyiv, by the way), so I won't be able to purchase the new level." Romero responded, "You've already done more than most will do in their lifetime. I'll DM you a code in a sec. Stay safe."

If you choose to buy Romero's new level, you need to own a copy of Doom 2 to play it. Once you've purchased it, you'll be emailed a download link which you can use up to three times. You can pick it up and donate here.

The charities you'll be supporting are the Ukranian Red Cross Society and CERF. The former helps refugees, orphans, prisoners of war, and the sick during times of crisis and war, but it doesn't stop there. It also helps people recover from trauma, getting past these events.

Right now, as Russia continues its attack on Ukraine, even roping in Belarus, bombs are being dropped on several major Ukrainian cities, and so the Red Cross is one of many humanitarian charities hard at work in helping the victims of these attacks.

CERF is a "United Nations global emergency response fund" that aims to save lives during crises, similarly helping the citizens being targeted in Russia's attacks. You can donate by buying the Doom 2 level, or you can donate directly. And while Romero says that all proceeds will go to charity, that too means revenue as he stated that the level cost nothing to develop.
