Not because it was ever in doubt, but id Software's Doom Eternal once again proved that Doomguy is gaming's most kickass protagonist. Also known as The Marine, Doom's legendary hero has been putting demons back in their place since 1993, and Doom Slayer's missions have only gotten gorier and more awesome over the last two and a half decades.

While he does occasionally show his face and even has had a few names thrown his way, Doomguy primarily serves as a surrogate for players. In some ways, everyone who has ever played Doom is Doomguy, which makes the character a natural fit for cosplay.

10 On Guard

Cosplay by DavidRaven.

Even though he is not exactly helpless without a weapon, Doomguy tends to become his best self when armed with some type of gun. And the bigger the weapon, the better.

Obviously, the Praetor Suit is synonymous with Doom Slayer, but the character does feel somewhat naked without a BFG-9000 or a Super Shotgun. David Raven's Doomguy is ready for battle, and it is going to be a great day for slaying demons.

9 Up Close & Personal

Due to being an FPS franchise, Doomguy is generally heard but not directly seen. If it were not for cutscenes and box art, the Praetor Suit would be mostly a mystery. As the games do not typically need to render the suit during gameplay, the armor has mostly only been seen in detailed art pieces or cutscenes that can show Doomguy in the most flattering light.

As such, cosplayers looking to create the iconic suit have a lot of high-quality material to turn to for inspiration. Maxgb_cosplay's Doomguy is so close to the real deal, it is almost frightening.

8 Pre-Slaying

Cosplay by Galactic-Reptile.

Who exactly is Doomguy? While the original '90s version was rumored to be a descendant of Wolfenstein's B.J Blaskowicz and Commander Keen's son, the latter iteration seen in 2016's Doom and Doom Eternal is mostly a blank slate. He exists solely to act as a boogeyman for demons.

Doom Eternal does have more of a story, but Doomguy is still primarily kept the same. Galactic-Reptile is one of the franchise's most prominent cosplayers, and this photo captures a rare quiet moment in Doom Slayer's existence.

7 Slaying

Fittingly enough, Galactic-Reptile's Doomguy looks far more at ease whilst in the middle of battle than in-between bouts of demon-slaying. Certain characters benefit from deep dives into their psyches, but they typically do not go by names like Doom Slayer. He slays, therefore he is.

Presenting a more slim version of the iconic gaming character, Galactic-Reptile's Doomguy is still a no-nonsense hero who lets his actions speak for themselves.

6 Those Poor Demons

Dominique de Leon's store is packed with stunning cosplay costumes that primarily revolve around foam armor. Along with this impressive Doomguy cosplay, the cosplayer has put together some fantastic Mass EffectGoblin Slayer, and Dead Space pieces.

Strange as it may be to imagine Doomguy going to battle alongside a partner, this entry does serve as a pretty awesome couple's cosplay set. The only ones that suffer from there being two Doom Slayers are the demons.

5 Battle Scars

Cosplay by Gavwav.

Doom is gloriously violent. As a franchise that centers around ripping dozens of demons apart per minute to avoid having the same done in reverse, it would not be Doom without a bit of mayhem, blood, and a mountain of loose heads.

As painful as Gavwav's stomach scar looks, a wound like that would suggest it was a pretty slow day in the office for Doom Slayer.

4 Some Heads Are Gonna Roll

Hell just follows Doomguy wherever he may go. Thankfully, even when in the middle of a well-earned vacation, Doom Slayer is always ready to demolish a few demons. After all, what could possibly be more relaxing than that?

Leobareto38's armor is definitely impressive, but it is the monster's head that steals the show. Going by the lack of eyes and prominent teeth, that is probably a Hell Knight.

3 Hell

Cosplay by DoomGuy141.

Tired of constantly having to make the trip from Earth to Hell, Doomguy eventually decided to permanently take up residence in the latter. While he does travel a bit around in Doom and especially Doom Eternal, Hell will always be Doomguy's home.

DoomGuy141's deviant art profile is filled with cool Doom cosplay photos, but there is just something special about this particular creation. Doom is just as much about Hell as it is about Doom Slayer; in fact, the former is more important than the latter.

2 Armed & Ready

The announcement of a new Doom is always a cause for celebration, but interest in the FPS franchise dwindled somewhat after the divisive Doom 3. 2016's Doom saw the series return to form in a big way, sending the hype for 2020's sequel into overdrive.

Tomvdcr's cosplay is just a visual representation of the hype surrounding Doom Eternal. And like the games themselves, everything Doom-related is improved with a few additional guns.

1 Someone Give This Doomguy An Award!

Cosplay by Scrap Shop Props.

This armor suit is so impressive, it might even prompt Doomguy himself to grunt in approval. Scrap Shop Props recreated the Praetor Suit down to the smallest detail. It is so good, the armor could be used in a live-action Doom movie without much issue.

The costume is primarily made using foam, and the paintwork is especially impressive. Doomguy has never looked better.
