If you're excited for DOOM Eternalsurely 90% of that excitement comes from the thought of being able to perform some more of those delicious classic DOOM Glory Kills.

Few gaming experiences leave you feeling quite as satisfied as finishing off hordes of lumbering demonic foes by doling out super up-close-and-personal annihilation in the form of slicing, chopping, smashing, and everything in between. This, dear reader, describes infamous DOOM's Glory Kills.

If you're new on the DOOM bandwagon (firstly, welcome! It's fun here), then here's where you start paying attention. We've taken the liberty of breaking down how to perform these wondrous actions, because preparedness is next to godliness. And also because we have nothing better to do than get excited for the game's release (except maybe getting excited for Half-Life: Alyx which is making its debut this coming Monday).

Glory Kills are performed in the same way as in 2016's DOOM. It's easy, and completely addictive.

First, damage an enemy until they enter a "stagger state." When in a stagger state, an enemy will flash either blue or orange. An orange flash indicates you are close enough to perform a Glory Kill on them, while blue means they're out of range and you'll have to get in a bit closer until they begin flashing orange.

Once they're in the orange stagger state, press R3 or RS – on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, respectively – or the "F" key on PC, to perform a beautifully brutal execution that varies depending on the weapon you're wielding or the position you're approaching from.

Interestingly, the Glory Kill was conceptualized as a crafty (and very effective) way of directing players towards a more aggressive "push forward combat" playing style, because presumably that's what the devs thought would make you feel most like a super cool demon-killing death machine. There's added incentive in that Glory Kills don't use any ammunition, and always leave behind a whole bunch of health pickups.

And thus concludes our lesson in DOOM Glory Kills. Go forth and slay.
