We’ve all seen the memes of weird things turning up inside a piece of Halloween candy. There’s even one that’s been making the rounds with a copy of Doom running in there, something which nobody ever seriously expected to happen, but thanks to some inventive hardware developers, this could actually become a reality.

The people over at Adafruit have managed to make a Milky Way bar with a fully functional screen inside that's capable of booting up a build of Doom. This naturally is all in good fun, a jab at the persistent moral panic about dangerous and potentially illegal substances being surreptitiously hidden within Halloween candy.

“Parents,” the company says. “Please carefully inspect your kids’ Halloween candy! We found Doom running inside this Milky Way bar.”

Adafruit is a hardware manufacturer based in New York, New York. The company is mostly known for its innovative line of tools and accessories. Adafruit is described as having been “founded in 2005 by MIT engineer Limor Fried” who aimed to “create the best place online for learning electronics and making the best designed products for makers of all ages and skill levels.” Adafruit has been steadily expanding, now offering “tools, equipment, and electronics that Limor personally selects, tests, and approves.”

This of course comes in the wake of people getting the game going on all sorts of strange platforms. The last couple of years alone have witnessed modders porting Doom to rotary phones, tractors, pregnancy tests, and even bricks of Lego. Doom has been run within other forms of software as well, itself included. Players are currently able to boot up the game in their Basic Input/ Output System or BIOS and pull off a silky smooth 60 frames per second on the word processing platform Notepad.
