Mercedes is giving Dota 2 some bling by sponsoring a new tournament in the UK.

The name Mercedes-Benz has a lot going for it. As soon as you hear it you think expensive, luxurious cars filled with supervillains and their henchmen. And if not supervillains then definitely regular villains that will absolutely get their cars trashed by the end of the movie.

We're sure Mercedes would rather we focus less on the evil capitalist-side of their brand and more on the reliable/luxurious side, but that's not entirely up to them, is it?

However, in an attempt to rehabilitate their image, Mercedes is branching out into gaming with a new sponsorship for the UK and Ireland's ESL Premiership league.

The ESL Premiership is the division of the ESL (formerly known as the Electronic Sports League) that deals specifically with the British Isles. Historically, the ESL Premiership has only concerned itself with CS:GO and Rainbow Six Siege, but now they're going to dabble with Dota 2 thanks to a ritzy sponsorship from Mercedes.

To get their feet wet, the ESL Premiership will host their first Dota 2 tournament called the "ESL Premiership Skirmish." Rather than focus on teams, the Skirmish "will help identify emerging new talent and will be a proving ground for UK and Irish talent," according to ESL.

To sign up, head on over the ESL Skirmish website before October 8th. The top 20 players (four from each role) will then get invited to take part in a 4-week online tournament starting on October 22nd. The top two players from each role will then move to the grand finals to start on November 24th at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester.

Teams will be randomly assigned and rotate throughout the tournament, so individual performance is all that matters.

“The partnership between Mercedes-Benz and ESL has already proved to be hugely successful and has resulted in two incredible ESL One Birmingham tournaments for Dota 2 in 2018 and 2019,” said James Dean, Managing Director of ESL UK. “Having Mercedes-Benz involved with the national tournament will see that same success replicated within the ESL Premiership. It also means a more varied offering for players and fans with even more communities involved.”
