Microsoft's acquisition of Double Fine Productions is finally paying off! As announced on Twitter today, the quirky indie game developer will be bringing a trio of its classic adventure games to Xbox Game Pass in the very near future. Starting on October 29, 2020, subscribers will be able to play Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, and Full Throttle on both PC and Xbox One.

It may not sound like much, but each of these games is a bonafide gem. Grim Fandango, in particular, is considered the best LucasArts adventure title from its golden era. Released in 1998, it famously won "Game of the Year" over the legendary Half-Life in GameSpot's GOTY awards. It's an absolutely excellent title that has aged only slightly with regards to controls.

The other two games I'm less familiar with, but do have some memories. Day of the Tentacle is the sequel to Maniac Mansion, which is what kicked off LucasArts' foray into adventure titles. Created in 1993 after the success of the Monkey Island series, it takes a lot of inspiration from the SCUMM engine and weaves a humorous and lighthearted journey to players to dig through. Full Throttle is more of that, just from the perspective of a biker dude.

If you're subscribed to Game Pass for its xCloud integration, these three games will also be available on Android. Considering none of them really require precision controls or have any kind of time limits, it should be a pretty good fit for the limitations of current streaming technology.
