Guy Beahm, better known as Dr Disrespect, tweeted from his personal account for the first time in 3 years to address the situation in the E3 bathroom that caused his Twitch account to be suspended for 2 weeks.
The statement, posted in a TwitLonger, is brief, concise, and addresses the incident by taking responsibility for what happened and apologizing. The humility displayed by Beahm in this statement is diametrically opposed to the brash and unapologetic personality of Dr Disrespect; Beahm is clearly reinforcing the distinction between the character Dr Disrespect and the actor Guy Beahm.
I'd like to talk about Dr Disrespect's Twitch ban from E3.— Guy Beahm (@GuyBeahm) July 1, 2019
The statement begins, "I'd like to talk about Dr Disrespect's Twitch ban from E3", rather than "my" Twitch ban from E3. Throughout the statement he refers to the Dr Disrespect brand several times, and while he does take personal responsibility for the mistake, you wouldn't be completely mistaken to get the impression that he's talking about an entirely different person from himself, as opposed to a character he plays every single day.
The apology reads, "We wanted to capture an adventure, unfortunately we took that adventure into the wrongs areas unaware of the legalities surrounding it. On behalf of the Dr Disrespect brand, I apologize for this." The rest of the statement explains that Guy has spent time being introspective, leaning on his support system, and that while the incident was a "step back", he is optimistic for the future.
Whether the 2 week ban turns out to actually be a step back or not remains to be seen. Though the Dr Disrespect Twitch channel returned after 2 weeks, "Two Time" has postponed his return until July 8th. It's possible that the revenue lost while not streaming could be entirely made up during his highly publicized return stream. It has happened before: last year, after taking a 2 month break from streaming, the Doc returned and set a new record for donations and subs earned in a single stream. The cause of that hiatus was an arguably more severe scandal: Beahm took time away to focus on his family after he admitted to cheating on his wife. It will be interesting to see what impact this suspension has actually had, if any at all.
