The wait for a sequel in a video game series you love can be a painful one. Take Bayonetta, for example. With each passing Nintendo Direct, fans of the series became increasingly frustrated as no news on the development of the game emerged. That thankfully changed recently. Speaking of Nintendo, one of the reasons Dread has been such a success, aside from the fact it's a terrific game, is because Metroid fans had been waiting almost two decades for it.

You can add Dragon Age 4 to the list of sequels fans are clamoring for more info on, and there's bad news coming out of that camp this morning. It was revealed via an email sent to BioWare staff that Matt Goldman, the senior creative director on the next Dragon Age game, has parted ways with the studio. “We have mutually agreed to part ways, and his last day is today,” writes GM Gary McKay.

“Rest assured our commitment to a high-quality Dragon Age game has not waivered, and we will not ship a game that is not up to BioWare’s standards.” Confirmation that work on Dragon Age 4 will continue, but no word on where it's at or how big of a setback this will be for its development. Goldman has been with BioWare for more than two decades, working on the first three Dragon Age games as well as Baldur's Gate.

As for Dragon Age 4, there's no telling where exactly the highly-anticipated next installment is at right now. Likely nowhere near launch considering its senior creative director just walked out on the project. BioWare has been teasing Dragon Age 4 since 2018. Even that was a little odd considering there had been just three years between games two and three, and just a two-year gap between Origins and Dragon Age 2.

It has now been seven years since the launch of Inquisitions with no end in sight to the wait for its follow-up. BioWare has fallen into a trap that is becoming all too familiar in the video game industry when it comes to Dragon Age 4. Announcing a game far too early, not knowing what might hamper its development. CDPR fell victim to it through Cyberpunk 2077, and the same happened to Square Enix courtesy of Marvel's Avengers.
