It is easy to get attached to the characters in the Dragon Age series. Unfortunately, that means they can break our hearts.

Whether it be from breaking up because of a decision we made or by saying some mean words, it is rare to find a player who does not have a story of a character hurting their feelings in a Dragon Age game. We just love them so much!

Here are ten instances in the game that hurt the feelings of some poor players. Be warned, as there are major spoilers ahead for the series.

10 Alistair Breaking Up With The Warden

Alistair is like a video game prince charming. He is adorkable, funny, and is with you for your entire adventure in Dragon Age: Origins. He is a difficult character to not get attached to, and that is part of why many players romance him.

However, depending on your decisions at the Landsmeet, Alistair might break up with you. If you make him King and you're an elf, that could be a reason. If you decide to show Loghain mercy, that is another reason.

9 Fenris Turning Against You If You Side With The Mages

Fenris has a lot of emotional issues, and we certainly can't blame him due to his tragic past. However, since he is the character who is the most hurt, he often ends up hurting those who love him. If you do not fully rival or friend him, he will turn against you if you side with the mages at the end of Dragon Age 2. That means you have to kill him.

For those who loved his character but did not max out his friendship or rivalry, that was very traumatizing. What a cruel world we live in.

8 The Iron Bull Turning Against You In Trespasser

If you sacrifice the Bull's Chargers in Inquisition, the decision comes back to bite you in the Trespasser DLC. Without his Chargers, Iron Bull fully commits to the Qunari and they decide to go to war.

This means the Iron Bull will betray you in Inquisition. It does not matter if you were even romancing him.

7 Isabella Not Coming Back After Act 2

In Dragon Age 2, it is revealed that Isabella is a wanted thief who stole a sacred Qunari artifact. Once the Qunari attack the city, she runs away. If you have friended or rivaled her enough, she will come back. If not, then she is gone for good. You will not see her character again.

6 Sebastian Leaving You If You Don't Kill Anders

Sebastian is a DLC character in Dragon Age 2 and is a man of the Chantry. However, he is also a prince. You help him decide whether to take the charge as prince or to remain a Chantry man. However, that all comes crashing down depending on whether you kill Anders or not.

Sebastian is hungry for revenge and wants Anders dead for blowing up the Chantry. If you refuse, he decides to be a prince and go to war with Kirkwall no matter what you taught him before.

5 Solas Breaking Up With Lavellan

Solas is the most infamous of the Dragon Age heart-breakers. He can only be romanced if you play as a female elf, and that all makes sense once his backstory as an ancient elf comes to light.

Near the end of Inquisition, he breaks up with Lavellan and decides to commit to his original plan to tear down the Fade. The most hurtful part is that he looks so depressed and upset about what he is doing but he still does it away.

4 Leandra Blaming Hawke For Their Siblings' Death

Not all heartbreak comes from main characters. Leandra shocked many players at the beginning of Dragon Age 2 when Bethany or Carver dies at the hands of an ogre. She tells Hawke that their death is his or her fault. That is some major trauma to lay on your kid!

To make matters worse, she never takes those words back. Hawke just takes it and they move on with their lives. This happens no matter what you choose too, so it is a pain every player has witnessed.

3 Anders Blowing Up The Chantry

Anders in general hurts people's feelings. Throughout Dragon Age 2, this man goes mentally downhill with each passing Act. It is especially depressing if you are romancing and/or rivaling him. He chooses revolution over you and admits that he actually doesn't know how much of him is himself anymore because of the spirit of Justice taking control inside him.

Even if you aren't romancing him, Anders breaks trust between friends.

2 Fenris' Feelings In The Blue Wraith Comics

Not every pain came from the games. For example, you might feel more sympathetic for Loghain if you read The Stolen Throne.

Recently, the second edition of the Blue Wraith came out, which stars Fenris. Fenris notes in this edition that he feels like he was used in discarded by his friends from Dragon Age 2. This hurt enough peoples' feelings that the creator actually had to explain himself. He did explain himself well though, saying that Fenris has an easier time being angry than missing people. That sure does sound like him, even if it is quite depressing.

1 Cassandra Getting Drunk And Losing Her Cool

Cassandra is one of the coolest female characters in the series, so it is very jarring if you get on her bad side.

In Inquisition, she will get crazy-drunk and lose her cool at you. The poor woman can barely stand while she is yelling at you. She is usually a source of strength, so it is a major change to see. This only happens if you get on her bad side though. If you get this scene and later get on her good side, she actually apologies.
