With every huge gaming event, fans are always waiting to hear news of a new Dragon Age game. The last installment was Dragon Age: Inquisition which was released all the way back in 2014. It seems like that wait maybe a little longer, as lead writer David Gaider has officially moved on from the series and is working on his own game.

He announced on Twitter that he is a co-founder of Summerfall Studios. They’re already working on a game that they describe as “an illustrated character-driven adventure.” The project’s Kickstarter is due to be announced this year at Pax Australia. The event will be live-streamed worldwide on Twitch on October 10th at 5:30 PM PST / October 11th at 10:30 AM AEST.

Gaider was a writer at BioWare for a very long time. He was the lead writer of the Dragon Age series, including the games Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, and Dragon Age: Inquisition, and was responsible for story and set design. He’s also done work as a character writer. Gaider has also done work for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark, and Baldur's Gate. He ended up spending about 17 years at BioWare as a whole. He did go onto joining Beamdog, a Canadian video game developer, as a creative director in 2016 but he left in 2018.

Liam Esler is the other co-founder and has done writing and producing work on games like Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Pillars of Eternity. The duo promises to make a game that will hurt our feelings in the best way possible.

Dragon Age: Inquisition has gotten numerous awards and nominations from gaming critics. The game has received The Game Award for Best Role Playing Game and won Game of the Year. It’s no wonder fans have been itching to see new content.

However, according to Kotaku, BioWare has been struggling with its projects for some time since the departure of some key staff members. We’ve got a small teaser last year but other than that, there’s been no news. It’s very possible that Gaider’s departure, as well as the loss of staff, has greatly changed the game's timeline. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see what content Summerfall Studios puts out.
