Bulla Brief is the daughter of Vegeta and Bulma and now one of the side characters of Dragon Ball Super. She has a brother named Trunks, a grandmother named Panchy, and a grandfather named Dr. Brief. Though this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Bulla’s life. She’s smart, strong, intelligent, and charismatic, just like her mother! But there’s also much more to her than meets the eye. Though there’s only one episode with her in it in Dragon Ball Z, much was said about her by Toriyama and other authoritive voices.

Now, before we get started, let’s talk about Dragon Ball GT. While we will mention GT, most of our info will not be gotten from the series. Fans don’t normally enjoy GT references, but more importantly, the creator of the original series doesn’t either. Since Toriyama didn’t approve of it, we would like to respect him by using only the info he is okay with. He may not have enjoyed the series, it may not have been canon, but there are a few things he appreciated. Much of that involves Bulma and Vegeta’s second-born.

They may seem crazy and they may seem strange, but what do you expect from such a child as this. She’s the daughter of the Prince of All Saiyans and the offspring of the owner of a multi-million-dollar company! It’s the one, the only…Bulla Brief. Want more? Take a look at these twenty-two mind-blowing facts that many fans didn’t know!

22 That’s Not All It Means

Via: YouTube.com

We know what Bra means, but have you ever wondered what Bulla means in English? In medicine, a bulla is a bubble of air generally filled with a clear liquid. This can occur in lung abnormalities. That’s kind of disturbing, so let’s go with the other meaning.

A “magical” amulet. Or, at least, that’s how we see it. It was given to male children in Ancient Rome nine days after birth. It is used to protect against evil spirits and forces. They were given to boys before they were a “man” able to protect themselves. Girls did not wear bullas, however, they were given amulets called lunulas. They removed the amulet the night before they were to marry. Who knew the word had such meaning? Probably not Toriyama.

21 Godly Potential?

Via: YouTube.com

Have we finally found a match for every Saiyan that was ever called the best? Could Bulla be the strongest Saiyan in existence when she gets older? Many seem to think so. You see, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks are all strong characters. Gohan likely having the most wasted potential of them all. When he put his mind to it, he could do anything, becoming the youngest Super Saiyan 2 yet! YouTuber SliceofOtaku does a wonderful job of explaining why people think Bulla could surpass her father and brother.

If she does, then she could become so important to the series that they’ll have to take her out of it in a self-sacrificing way…or make her the new main character. Because we know that Goku’s godchild can’t surpass him and still have a normal series.

20 She’s The First!

Via: YouTube.com

The “First Female Half-Saiyan” that is. You may say, “hey, what about Pan?” but the truth is Pan is a quarter-Saiyan. Her grandmothers are both human. Her mother is human. Gohan is the only Saiyan in her. But Bulla, she’s the true half-Saiyan, half-Earthling. She has Saiyan blood in the same way that Gohan, Goten, and Trunks do. We may say that since they already exist, what makes her so special?

The simple fact of the matter is, there haven’t been any overpowered female Saiyans in the series yet. There may have been small characters, but none of the main females have had potential. Videl was a great fighter for being a human, but the cap is far too low for a human. Android 18 is boss but she can’t gain infinite power like a Saiyan can either. Guess Bulla is pretty special.

19 Aunt Tights?

Via: chibidamz.deviantart.com

Not too long ago, the world was introduced to Bulma’s sister Tights. Tights is a feisty blonde with many of the same traits as Bulma. This makes us wonder if Tights will end up being a part of Bulla’s life in Super. For them to be introduced so close together makes us think that she has to be. Or else why bring her in?

Speaking of, we assume that Vegeta’s brother Tarble will soon show up in the series as well. Since he is Bulla’s uncle, she could be the reason he makes an appearance. Last we heard, Vegeta had no idea where he was. If he shows up, it could be with dastardly intentions. He is a Saiyan, after all. Maybe his sweet niece can change him.

18 That’s Not My Name!

Via: aminoapps.com

Let’s start move onto something common. We know Bulma’s daughter as Bulla, but in Japan, she’s known as Bra. So yep! She goes along with the family tradition of naming your Brief after an undergarment. In this case, a brassiere. Bulla literally means bra in Japan.

This goes along with the Brief tradition of naming your child after underwear.

Trunks is obvious, but we also have Bulma which is a Japanese play on bloomers. Then more recently, it was Tights, Bulma’s sister. We wonder why this takes place until we realize that, in Dragon Ball, Dr. Brief was a first-class Master Roshi. He would store dirty magazines in capsules randomly. Guess he chose all of these names, encouraging Bulma to follow in his footsteps.

17 A Divine Creation

Via: YouTube.com

We don’t like to talk about it, but Vegeta took part in creating Bulla, simple as that. What a night! They say that as a Saiyan, the stronger you are when you conceive, the stronger the child will be. Just imagine how strong Vegeta was when Bulla was conceived compared to when Trunks was. He was hardly a super Saiyan at the time and now…he’s a Super Saiyan God! That would mean that Bulla has God Ki genetics.

She was a little egg, fertilized with God Ki.

It might not make sense to many, but it is very likely. The Saiyans are all about social class. So it would make sense that their children’s strength would be genetic. Not historically genetic but presently genetic, if that’s comprehensible.

16 Super Ultra Child Prodigy

Via: YouTube.com

This is a term given to Goten and Trunks after they were born without tails. It is said that they would have been stronger than Gohan if they were given a chance. But their mothers wouldn’t allow them to fight like their fathers. If they did, they probably could have saved the world from Buu far earlier than they did at seven and eight-years-old.

Like these two, Bulla too was born without a tail. The idea that tailless Saiyans are more powerful goes along with the conception idea where the stronger the Saiyan, the stronger the child. Not having a tail is a big plus! It’s like being a werewolf with werewolf powers but without the hassle of turning into a beast you can’t control.

15 Nothing If She Doesn’t Use It

Via: YouTube.com

As strong as Bulla may be, what is actually likely is that she’ll waste it away even more than Gohan did. She’s a lot like her mother. Bulma isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty but would much rather be pampered by the men in her life. She’s a girl’s girl who embraces feminity in every way possible. Not to say that she wouldn’t be as strong as a tomboy like Pan, but if she doesn’t apply herself, she’ll lose her potential.

We’re not sure if her parents will let her fight anyway. We can hear Bulma yelling, “Vegeta, you don’t let her get hurt!” but even more likely, it’s Vegeta that won’t allow her to fight. He can be a bit of a chauvinist.

14 In The Year 780

Via: wikia.com

The year of 780 is when Bulla was supposedly born. For the Saiyan world, this was a big year! It’s the year the fight for universal dominance tournament takes place. The year that, ironically, Goku goes to the Underworld. He doesn’t necessarily perish, but it’s strange to see a new life surface and an old one sent to the afterlife. In alternate timelines, this is a big year too.

It’s the year Bulma’s life is taken. The year that Trunk’s life changes.

But in the present timeline, it’s the year that Bulla is born. The year that Frieza is rescued from the underworld and bargained with to participate in saving the human universe. You can imagine the news when they get around to, “in this year in history!”

13 Bulla’s Hair

Via: Tumblr.com

It’s well known that Bulma’s hair changes colors throughout the series. She can hardly keep the same hair color for more than one saga! The woman likes to branch out, you know! What we wonder is whether this is hereditary or not. Trunks’ hair has changed but not too dramatically. He consistently keeps the same tone. It’s likely that Bulma actually regularly colors her own hair, but then what color of hair will Bulla have?

In Dragon Ball GT she has a very specific blue-green hair, but it’s safe to say that will change. The reason Bulma’s hair changes so often is that one: she likes to experiment with different styles. And two: it’s hard to replicate that same color every season. So what will we see in Bulla?

12 Saiyan Princess

Via: touche1114.deviantart.com

We all know well that Vegeta comes from a line of royal blood. If we hear him say, “I’m the prince of all Saiyans,” one more time in a video game, we’re throwing the thing out. Not really, but you get the gist.

Anyway, Vegeta isn’t even a prince anymore. He’s the king. With King Vegeta dethroned, it makes this Vegeta the one true Saiyan king. Yep, he really does have control over Kakarot. This would make Bulla a princess of sorts. Not on Earth, but of the Saiyan race. No one ever sees Trunks as a prince, but it’s easy to see Bulla as a princess. It may be that she’s favored by her father or it may be we see her as more spoiled than Trunks. We’ll see how this pans out in the future.

11 Goku Was Going To Be Her Dad

Via: pinterest.com

Best to just say this one how it is. At the beginning of Dragon Ball, Toriyama had plans to make Bulma and Goku a thing. It obviously didn’t happen. After all, at the premiere, Goku is 12 and Bulma is 16. Thinking about this realistically, it would be far too awkward. It ended up working so much better for Bulma do be more of a mother figure to him.

But imagine it had worked out as planned.

That would make Goku Bulla’s dad. That’s completely disgusting if you ask us. Then again, the entire dynamics of the show would have been different. We might have liked it. But without Bulma, Vegeta wouldn’t even be a Z-fighter. And who knows which kids would have been born and which ones wouldn’t have!

10 The Horse And The Ram

Via: pallottili.deviantart.com

In the Chinese Zodiac, Bulla is considered a Horse. The Horse is a fire sign who is also a yang. They demonstrate enthusiasm and energy. They thrive on independence and integrity. Their game is passion and diligence. In short, the Horse is a really strong and influential sign.

What makes this sign so interesting isn’t just its traits. But rather that it’s considered a “perfect match” with the ram (or sheep). Vegeta himself is a sheep, who is actually seen as gentle and calm. Which is exactly what he is with Bulla. Bulla (the horse) brings out who Vegeta was always meant to be. He’s also the Yin to the Horse’s Yang. Their biggest weakness? Their moodiness and pessimism. Seems so fitting that we’re all believers now.

9 Bulla Could Have Had Issues

Via: ign.com

How is this possible? What could have caused this darling baby to be born with defects? One simple thing. Bulma’s secret addiction. With the evolution of filters on television, the evidence of Bulma’s smoking addiction has all but been omitted. But the truth is, she is a smoker. We hope that she’s changed, but chances are, with all the stress of saving the world, she hasn’t.

Smoking while pregnant doesn’t allow enough oxygen to get to the child. Since Bulla is half-human, she could have been born with a disability, heart failure, or something worse. If not the smoking, then Bulma getting knocked around could have done it too! So ladies, please don’t smoke while pregnant, even if you are carrying a Saiyan’s child.

8 She Doesn’t Exist To Future Trunks

Via: ps4wallpapers.com

In Dragon Ball Z, we see Trunks come from the future to warn the gang about the Androids. In his world, Bulma’s life was ended while she was pregnant with Bulla. He never met his sister, he never even knew that she existed. With that future changed, Bulla came into existence and Future Trunks became nonexistent. Her own brother saved her life without ever even knowing her! If it weren’t for him, she would forever be an unborn child.

That’s right, Trunks saved Bulla’s life. Hope that someone lets her know this whenever she won’t cut him any big brother slack. He gave her and her mother everything. His child-self may be obnoxious but it’s better than the depressed teen that he had become in the alternate future.

7 Daddy Doesn’t Scare Me!

Via: teepublic.com

No matter what format you see her in, you can see that Bulla has no fear. She is even more fearless than her brother. Trunks at least had a little bit of fear for his father. But Bulla? She knows that Vegeta would never even attempt to harm her. She even has the gall to make fun of him whenever possible. But even if she didn’t trust him, we know that she’d pull right on through.

It seems one of her biggest strengths is to be fearless.

She must get this from her mother. Bulma was never afraid of Vegeta. To a fault, really. She trusted him when no one else did and that’s exactly what he needed. Now he’s wrapped around her finger and he knows it.

6 Shopping!

Via: YouTube.com

We’ve talked about Bulla being the Horse in the Chinese Zodiac. The Horse’s biggest weakness is their love for shopping! No joke! This may be why Bulla loves to shop so much. It’s her destiny! That’s why we can mention GT here. We know she loves to shop, so we can quote her from GT.

“Even though this is the first time you’ve been shopping with me in a while, we made quite a haul,” the scene in GT starts. And we all know how it ends. Vegeta puts in his two cents which are practically ignored by his daughter. When they meet ruffians who flirt with Bulla, she has no problem with her dad showing them his true colors. No one messes with his Bulla, even if he just went through a father’s worst nightmare with her…the mall.

5 Vegeta’s #1 Priority

Via: YouTube.com

Right before Bulla was born, Vegeta is asked to participate in the Zen Exhibition Match. Like a dream come true! Or maybe not! He ended up turning it down because he wanted to be there for Bulma and he wanted to see his daughter being born. How humane has Vegeta become? There’s no way Goku would have chosen Chichi over a tournament any day. Thankfully, Whis used his magic to accelerate the birth in the end. How convenient for Bulma. But the point is, Vegeta would have given up anything and everything for his daughter.

He loves her so much that he went Super Saiyan Blue when she cried. Of course, this scared the daylights out of the ones who made her tear up: Yamcha and Hercule.

4 Such A Shallot

Via: YouTube.com

In one scene, Vegeta admits that he wants to name Bulla, Eschalot. It may sound like a Biblical city, but it’s actually far simpler than that. In Japanese, this means Shallot, which is funny because it would mean he wanted Bulla to be named after his family (race) rather than Bulma’s. Kakarot is named after a carrot, Broly is based on broccoli, Raditz is derived from radish, and so on. All of the Saiyans are named after vegetables. But all of Bulma’s family is named after undergarments.

Sure, Vegeta, try convincing Bulma that Shallot is a cool name. The whole thing with Bulma winning out over Vegeta says a lot about their relationship. He wanted Bulla to be a vegetable, but hey, when’s the last time he got what he wanted?

3 Diaper Daddy

via pinterest.com

Turns out, Vegeta’s good at daddy stuff. Whenever Trunks tries to change Bulla’s diaper but struggles, Bulla begins to cry. In one fail swoop, Vegeta goes over and changes her, making her smile again. This just goes to show you that Vegeta is technically good at all of those little daddy things.

It's really ridiculous since Goku is forever getting all of the credit for being the good guy, when he’s actually a horrible father and husband. Vegeta can be selfish at times, but he would never, ever put anyone before Bulma, Trunks, and Bulla. They are his life and he’d rather destroy the planet than hurt his family. No wonder Bulla will have such a connection with her father. He’s there for her and likely will always be there for her.
