Dragon Quest 11 S: Definitive Edition launches on console and PC on December 4, bringing one of the best traditional JRPGs of recent memory to a whole new audience. It’s not just a straight-up re-release, however - the Definitive Edition features a host of new features to make the experience even better.

The first is Tickington: home of the Tockles, the ethereal keepers of time. Previously, this location was exclusive to the Nintendo versions of the game. Elsewhere, there are a bunch of quality of life improvements, new story content, and fresh features.

Producer Hokuto Okamoto and development director Masato Yagi laid out the changes in an email interview with TG.

“There are lots of subtle tweaks, but I think the biggest changes are the ability to change battle speed, being able to call the horse from anywhere, and being able to use the forge anywhere," the developers said.

According to the devs, these changes will make the experience more streamlined and enjoyable. Players who have already finished the original will be able to speed through familiar bits more quickly. Well, they would be able to if it wasn’t for another new addition...

“I think the photo mode is a big addition. It’s really valuable to have a feature that lets you preserve your memories of adventuring alongside your comrades in photographs,” said Okamoto.

Elsewhere, there’s all-new story content which will apparently let you find out what your friends were up to at “that time”.
