How To Unlock Multiplayer In Dragon Quest Builders 2

To unlock multiplayer, you need to progress through a large chunk of Dragon Quest Builders 2. You cannot invite a friend to join until you have completed Lulu's Demands on the Isle of Awakening, ventured to Furrowfield to help the villagers rebuild their farm, and then returned to the Isle of Awakening. This is a long list of tasks, as the Furrowfield storyline can easily take five hours to complete. There is a lot of farming involved, which can take a while.

Upon returning to Lulu after completing the Furrowfield story, you will be asked to make a meadow, river, and forest on the Isle of Awakening. You'll also need to find a chicken for Lulu. After completing these tasks, you will unlock the ability to travel to the Explorer's Shores and play multiplayer with friends.

To play multiplayer, all players will need to complete this section of the story. Even if one player rushes through and unlocks multiplayer, the rest of your group will need to catch up and complete Furrowfield before you are able to play in the same lobby.

Multiplayer is quite reserved in Dragon Quest Builders 2. You can't play the main story together or hop between all of the different islands. Instead, you are limited to the Explorer's Shores and the Isle of Awakening. You can explore and build together, but you won't be able to play through the whole game in multiplayer.
