Dragon Quest Treasures is a smaller, action-based spinoff from Dragon Quest. It stars the sibling pair of Erik and Mia from Dragon Quest 11 as children, as has been a tradition for some of the entries in the Dragon Quest Monsters series. Treasures initially started development as a new title in that spinoff series.

But like many games in the beloved series, there are quite a few things in Dragon Quest Treasures that don't make much sense, whether they be a lack of previously expected aspects, new aspects that don't get enough of an explanation, or something else entirely.

7 There Are Almost No Dragons

If there's one thing Dragon Quest is known for besides slimes and Akira Toriyama artwork, it's dragons. Strangely enough, besides the newly introduced Dragling species and its variants, there are none in Treasures.

These mythical creatures really should be expected when they're in the title of the game. They're even known for hoarding treasure, the main crux of the game, so omitting them is an even weirder choice. It would be more acceptable if only some were missing, but it's shocking not even to include the green and blue dragons that have been around since the first Dragon Quest.

6 Erik And Mia Can't Cast Spells But Their Monsters Can

In Dragon Quest 11, Erik's moveset includes seven magic spells, although he was never much of a spell caster. By comparison, Mia is more of a blank slate, since she serves as a boss fight and part of Erik's character background rather than a party member in said game.

While Erik's lacking spells is forgivable, it's odd that Mia also lacks them. However, it has been unclear if all humans have the potential to cast spells or only some, which would then mean only certain humans are capable of learning magic. Both characters have MP, but it only depletes when they use the daggers to restore their health.

5 Erik And Mia's Exclusive Dagger And Slingshot Usage

While Mia appears in Dragon Quest 11 and isn't a party or guest character, Erik is the first party member that joins the adventure. In said game, Erik has access to swords and boomerangs for weapons, alongside the trusty dagger. However, in Dragon Quest Treasures, both he and Mia can only use their slingshots and magical daggers.

This also raises the question of whether the Vikings that raised the siblings taught them how to defend themselves, or if they're self-taught. On the one hand, since they're meant to live a life of servitude while on the ship, the Vikings may have seen no reason to teach them. On the other hand, they could help protect the ship from any potential invaders.

4 Where Is Draconia Exactly?

The first Dragon Quest Monsters title may have starred Terry from Dragon Quest 6, but it takes place in a different world, with the Kingdom of GreatTree serving as the game's hub town and most important location.

Dragon Quest Treasures takes place in Draconia, a group of several large islands in the sky. But it's unclear if it's just separated from the rest of Dragon Quest 11's world of Erdrea since it's up in the clouds. Is it a case of most of the Erdrean population not being aware of it, or is it an alternate realm that's disconnected from Erdrea?

3 Why Display Treasure Outside?

Once Erik and Mia's gang reaches a certain rank, the siblings feel confident enough to display their treasures inside and outside their base, with piles of gold and various valuables spread out all over the place. The monster allies at their base don't seem to care either.

This seems like an awful idea. Other gangs are somehow already aware of their treasure hoard prior to them reaching that rank, and the siblings displaying all of their valuables out in the open puts a bigger target on their base. Wouldn't these gangs attempt to steal their treasure more frequently? They should at least hire some security to protect their loot while away from their base.

2 How Does Treasure Get Into Treasure Dungeons?

Sometimes when Erik and Mia are seeking treasure, a teleportal that leads to a treasure dungeon will open up. They must enter if they want the treasure they had been seeking. To obtain the treasure, they'll have to defeat several floors of monsters. However, it's never explained how the treasure got through these teleportals in the first place.

Did the person who hid the treasure throw it into the teleportal, or did the monsters within the teleportal take the treasure for themselves before Erik and Mia could get to it? Can some monsters create teleportals whenever they want to? At least keeping treasure buried within the island itself still makes some sense.

1 Armor, Weapon, And Furniture Treasures Can't Be Used

The loot found in Dragon Quest Treasures includes statues of items and characters from previous games, and even different pieces of furniture and equipment. What's odd is that the equipment cannot be equipped, and the furniture can't be used as decorations around the base, besides being displayed on plinths like all the other treasures.

It seems like these treasures are the actual items rather than statues or replicas, as other treasures are, so it's weird that all you can do with them is display them in a specific way. It seems a waste not to be able to use them to their full potential.
