Square Enix has been showing players what to expect from Dragon Quest Walk for iOS and Android devices, and it is becoming clearer every day that we are seeing little more than another Pokémon GO clone in a market saturated by games trying to cash in on augmented reality.

To be clear, there is nothing inherently wrong or disappointing in how Dragon Quest Walk seeks to accomplish its goals. Instead, it is that those goals are quite similar to what we have seen with the aforementioned game. It's in a similar situation as Niantic’s Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which is making players ask: why should I drop my years of progress in a game that still received regular updates for something new that is basically the same?

The move from one game to another might be too hard to justify. Harry Potter has not done spectacularly well, but it does appear to have a devote player base.

Square Enix is attempting to claim that its game is different from other mobile games. The official website describes the game as more of a traditional RPG

Tapping monsters on the map allows players to battle them and winning provides players with additional experience that is needed to level up. Items can be found and returned to decorate players' rooms. The only innovative concept appears to be the Home, which is is designated by the player and the area where your character can rest.

While the game seems similar to Pokémon GO, fans of the series will likely not mind at all.
