Dragon Quest 11 is a long game with an even longer list of weapons for you to find, loot, and craft. Gaining power in any JRPG requires some degree of time, and this power can be gained through sheer force of stats, powerful consumables, or even just the equipment you choose to wear on your person. Weapons are an excellent way to grow in strength, and the very best weapons provide so much more.

Of course, getting your hands on these powerful - often legendary armaments is easier said than done. Nobody said being the Luminary, or becoming a Hero was going to be easy. If you want a snazzy sword, you better believe you are going to have to work for it. Knowing which weapons are worth hunting down, however, is always a great first step.

10 Uber Gringham Whip

Veronica using Twin Dragon Lash in Dragon Quest XI

Raw power is not always the way to go. Sure, hitting an enemy really hard is a great way to kill one enemy, but Dragon Quest is rarely about fighting a single foe. This is where weapons with AOE components come in, and in this case, we are talking about Whips.

The best whip in the game is easily the Uber Gringham Whip, which first thwacked its way into the player's hands way back in Dragon Quest 9. To craft it, you need to nab the recipe in the 'A Hero's Book Of Brilliant Weapons". You can also pick up the bog-standard Gringham Whip by gambling at Octagonia Casino.

9 Galaxarang

Whips are not the only way to quickly deal with hordes of enemies - there are also boomerangs. Whilst they tend to have less raw power than their leathery counterparts, they also hit more enemies at once. If you are looking for a snazzy Boomerang, then the Galaxarang is for you.

Also making its debut in Dragon Quest 9 (you will be hearing this a lot), the Galaxarang is a Boomerang with stellar stats that deals high Lightning damage. This is a fantastic damage type in general in Dragon Quest 11. Dual-wielding this with other high-end Boomerangs, like the Metal King Boomerang, will further increase your already fantastic crowd control potential.

8 Xenlon Claws

Now we've gotten those pesky AOE damage weapons out of the way, we can focus our attention on raw power and damage dealing. The first on the list is the ill-fated Xenlon Claws.

Unfortunately, these amazing Claws are locked far into the post-game of Dragon Quest 11, making them especially difficult to obtain. So much so, most players will probably miss them. This is a real shame since their Critical Hit Percentage is especially nice, boosting Jade and Rab's damage substantially.

7 Metal King Spear

Jade using multithrust in Dargon Quest XI

Metal Slimes are a mixed bag. On the one hand, they are really hard to kill and often run away before you can deal with them. On the other hand, they provide so much EXP that it's quite comical. The solution to this problem is to find a way to kill them effectively and reap all the rewards.

This is where the Metal King Spear comes into play as it deals bonus damage to Metal Slimes, making it ideal for grinding. That's not its only use either, as this Spear has great stats and even debuffs enemies, making it a wonderful balance of offence, defence and utility. All you have to do to nab it is hand in 100 Mini Medals and craft it.

6 Dynamo Dagger

Sometimes a weapon just deals a lot of damage, and that's all you want it to do. The Dynamo Dagger - another returning weapon from Dragon Quest 9 - is exactly that. It effortlessly out damages every other dagger in the game, making it a great pick for any would-be Thief.

To give it a bit more of an edge in combat, the Dynamo Dagger also increases the wielder's chance to dodge, making it an all-around great weapon.

5 Aurora Staff

Dragon Quest 11 Aurora Staff

Not all weapons are for bonking enemies on the bonce, although this weapon can certainly do that thanks to its surprisingly high Attack Stat. No, some weapons are there to enhance your arcane arts, and that is where the Aurora Staff comes in.

It boosts offensive and defensive magic substantially, making it a must-have for any caster. It even has built-in utility and removes buffs from any enemy hit - with the chance of that happening increasing to 100 percent if you upgrade it at the Fun-Size Forge.

4 Split-Pot Poker

Dragon Quest 11 Split-Pot Poker

We are going to be sneaky and include another Spear on this list - even though we love the Metal King Spear. The thing is, the Split-Pot Poker just does so much damage that it can't be ignored. Not only that, but it is rocking a high Parry chance, keeping its wielder surprisingly safe.

What makes this weapon shine is its ability to ignore armour, so it is striking for massive damage all the time. Nothing can stop it, and in the hands of a masterful Spear-wielder like Jade, you can't help but fall in love. Fitting, since it also boosts Charm - one of Jade's primary stats.

3 Faerie King's Cane

Serena with the Fairie King cane in Dragon Quest XI

The Aurora Staff, whilst being an excellent Staff in its own right, is not actually the best Staff in Dragon Quest 11 - not for Healers at any rate. No, that honour goes to the Faerie King's Cane. This thing is monstrous, providing a huge boost to your healing efficacy, innate damage reduction, and automatic healing. There's nothing to dislike here.

It's not the easiest weapon to grab unfortunately as it is locked behind the final challenge in the Wheel Of Harma. To make things even harder, you have to do it in under 35 turns, which is easier said than done.

2 Brilliant Blade

The luminary with the brilliant blade in Dragon Quest XI

With a name as resplendent as the Brilliant Blade, you'd expect great things from the greatest of Greatswords. You'd also be dead on the money with that assumption, as there is nothing quite like this sword. It has staggeringly high stats, more or less capping out in Attack, Charm and Parry. Nothing quite compares in raw stats.

If that wasn't enough, the Brilliant Blade gleams with the Light element, which is one of the better elements in the game. There is simply no downside to this ridiculous sword, and you should probably hunt it down.

1 Supreme Sword of Light

The Luminary from Dragon Quest XI

Brilliant Blade may be, well, brilliant, and it may have the best stats in the entire game. However, it is not the best sword in the game - somehow. No, that honour goes to the Luminary's personal Ultimate Weapon, the Supreme Sword Of Light. Even with lesser stats in most areas, it outshines its fellow Light-imbued brother in other ways.

Most importantly, it has buckets of utility that is really helpful later in the game. Most notably, it strips enemies of all their buffs when striking making every combat imaginable easier. If you activate the Supreme Sword Of Light as an item, it will even heal all debuffs from your team for free - making it truly ludicrous. Throw in a secondary element to boost its damage even further, and plonk it on the strongest character in the game, and you have your number one spot. There is no reason to not use this weapon from the moment you get it.
