Dragon Quest XI was released to great acclaim in Japan on the 28th of July, 2017. On the day of its Japanese release, Yuji Horii (the creator of the series) announced that an English version of the game was being developed for an international release. It was revealed today that the release date for the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of Dragon Quest will be on September 4th, 2018.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is one of the most highly acclaimed games in the series, which is saying a lot, considering how popular the games are in Japan. The cultural significance of Dragon Quest in Japan dwarfs that of even the Final Fantasy series.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age was the most recent game to earn a perfect 40/40 score in Famitsu magazine, making it one of only a handful of games to earn that accolade since 1986. Only one other Dragon Quest game (Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies) has earned this honor.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age represents the return of the single-player entries of the mainline Dragon Quest games to the PlayStation. The first six Dragon Quest games were on Nintendo systems, with Dragon Quest VII and VIII appearing on the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, respectively. Dragon Quest X was a Japan-exclusive MMO that appeared across multiple systems.

The international version of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will feature English voice acting and an overhauled UI which shows more in-depth information on the menu screens, as well as a first-person camera view and faster movement speed on the world map.

The developers of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age told IGN that a version of the game is in development for the Nintendo Switch, but that it is going to take a long time for it to be released, due to technical issues. The Switch version of the game is not expected to be released in 2018.

The most unusual thing about the international ports of Dragon Quest XI is that the Nintendo 3DS version of the game is not receiving an English release, despite the popularity of the system across the world. The Ps4 and 3DS versions of the game had the exact same content, with the only differences being aesthetic choices.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be released on the PlayStation 4 and on Steam on September 4th, 2018. The Nintendo Switch version of the game will be released sometime in 2019.
