DreamHack will be postponing all of its remaining 2020 events until next year, the esports tournament organizer announced earlier today. The company had five esports and gaming festivals scheduled for the final months of 2020, all of which will now be rescheduled to take place in 2021. The majority of DreamHack’s 2020 events have been cancelled or postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

DreamHack had originally scheduled eleven esports festivals to take place across the world in 2020. The schedule included stops in Valencia, Spain, Jönköping, Sweden, and Hyderabad, India, to name a few. The initial two tournaments, which took place in Leipzig, Germany, and Anaheim, California, were the only two to happen as planned. The events featured CS:GO, Dota 2, and Fortnite LAN tournaments.

DreamHack Dallas, originally scheduled for late May, was soon postponed, along with following stops in Jönköping, Valencia, and Montreal. DreamHack Summer, which was meant to hold a Masters-level CS:GO tournament in Jönköping, Sweden, was moved online. CS:GO’s DreamHack Opens were also adapted into an online, regional format.

The remaining five events on the tournament organizer’s schedule have officially been postponed until 2021. DreamHack Rotterdam, originally slated for October, was meant to hold a CS:GO Open tournament along with a gaming expo and other activities. The next stop was meant to bring a CS:GO Open event to Hyderabad, India, adding onto DreamHack's previous visits to Mumbai and Delhi.

The following two events, taking place in Atlanta, Georgia, and another stop Jönköping, were originally scheduled to go live in November. The events’ activities were largely unannounced, though Jönköping’s DreamHack Winter was slated to hold a $100,000 CS:GO Open tournament. The final event of 2020 was scheduled to take place in Madrid, Spain, in December, and was also meant to hold a CS:GO Open tournament.

“The goal for all of us at DreamHack is to provide great experiences at our events, which thrive by bringing communities together for these shared and beloved festival weekends all around the globe,” says Marcus Lindmark, Co-CEO of DreamHack. “We have never had to postpone events like this before — but these are extraordinary times, and the safety of our attendees and staff has never been more important than now.”

DreamHack’s esports festivals are just a few of many other gaming events that have been cancelled or postponed due to COVID. ESL’s CS:GO Major, slated to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was rescheduled for November. Dota 2’s The International is not expected to happen until 2021.

While no future dates have been announced as of yet, DreamHack’s 2020 events will be rescheduled for 2021.
