GRIS, the indie platformer acclaimed for its art style, is making its way to PS4 next week. GRIS is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PC, and iOS.

A game's visual style is an important feature, especially for independent titles. A captivating art design will help indie titles stand out from the many other games vying for a person's attention. A big part of the reason why Cuphead received plenty of press was due to its 1930s-era cartoon graphics. Shovel Knight is well known for replicating the look of a classic 8-bit title. Of course, anyone who has played Journey will never forget that game's visuals. GRIS is another example with standout visuals.

Released last December, GRIS is a dreamlike platformer described as a "serene and evocative experience." As the game progresses, the character's dress yields new abilities for traversing her world. Publications and fans alike praised the hand-crafted visuals. Soon, a new wave of individuals will be able to experience the game. Today, Nomada Studio announced on the PlayStation Blog that GRIS is coming to PS4 November 26. Check out the trailer below.

The PS4 port of GRIS will come with mild upgrades. According to Roger Mendoza, head programmer of Nomada Studio, Gris' assets will have a higher resolution to take advantage of the graphical capability of the PS4 Pro and 4K displays. In addition, the soundtrack and audio design will sound better due to less compression. There will also be some quality-of-life improvements. Finally, Mendoza says there will be a "PlayStation-exclusive secret homage" to one of the company's favorite games, and inspiration for GRIS. Limited Run Games has opened pre-orders for a PS4 physical edition for GRIS.

It is always a great thing when players of other consoles can experience a game. Cuphead was once a Microsoft exclusive, but now Nintendo Switch players can check it out. Soon, Five Nights at Freddy's games 1-4, titles only available on mobile and PC, will be on Nintendo Switch. It's a great time for independent companies. Not every publication out there praised GRIS, but there's no denying it resonated with many people. Those who say video games are not art should probably go check out this title.
