I think half of what makes a movie or TV series good are the characters. You can have an amazing plot and awesome effects/animation, but if your characters are dull or cliché, you’re going to have a hard time keeping the audience engaged. And I think DreamWorks does a pretty good job of creating a ton of crazy, interesting, and pretty unique characters through the movies and TV shows it’s done. From a panda that knows Kung Fu to a bee that wants to sue the human race, you can guarantee that a DreamWorks character will at least be unusual.

A lot of fans have shown their appreciation for these characters in many ways, but a big way is through fan art. Fan art is a great way for artists to both practice their skills and show their love of a movie or TV show. Artists also like to change up the character a bit in their own art. And one popular way to do that is to switch up the genders.

Genderbending is a fun trend among fan artists because it takes a character you’re familiar with and adds a new twist. And it’s a good way for artists to practice drawing male and female bodies. Taking a character and figuring what you’d have to change to make them look like the opposite gender is a great exercise, and fans love to see what their favorite character would possibly look like as a different gender.

So here are 25 DreamWorks characters that have been reimagined as girls. Alright, ladies, it’s your time to shine!

25 She’s Still A Super Genius

Via: mel-maux.deviantart.com

What I love about Megamind is even though he proclaims himself to be a supervillain, he’s not really all that evil. This guy basically became a supervillain because everyone thought he was bad, so he decided to be the baddest villain they had ever seen. But deep down, Megamind is still that little kid that wants friends and desperately longs to be accepted by a society that had always see him as a monster. It’s kind of sad, actually. Thankfully, he does get a happy ending as the new hero of Metro City, so things do work out for the guy.

So how would Megamind be if the supervillain was a supervillainess? I don’t think too much would change other than maybe her costume designs. I could still see her preferring tight form-fitting outfits. I do like this artist’s design of a female Megamind. I’m glad they kept her bald, and the outfit looks fantastic on her! (We know female Megamind would be totally rocking it with her flamboyant style of fashion). It would’ve been interesting to see how a female alien would’ve dealt with trying and failing to be accepted by the world. I think it probably would’ve been even harder for her.

24 She’s As Cold As Ice

Via: sakimichan.deviantart.com, juliajm15.tumblr.com

You can’t help but love this mischievous winter spirit (being voiced by Chris Pine probably helps). Jack Frost is quite the troublemaker, but he’s also incredibly likable. He’s funny, kind, snarky, and very childlike in many ways. He’s also hiding a lot of pain and sorrow, so you can’t help but want to give the poor kid a hug. And when you learn his backstory, the urge to hug him becomes so much stronger. This is a very brave guy who sacrificed himself to save his sister, and he now spends his time watching over the kids in the world.

I think Jackie would still be perfectly comfortable in a hoodie and pants.

I love these two designs of female Jack (I think fans call her Jackie). They’re gorgeous and very fitting of her personality. You can tell just by looking in her eyes that she’s planning her next big prank (probably on the Easter Bunny). I think Jackie would still be perfectly comfortable in a hoodie and pants. I really can’t see her in a dress, especially since it wouldn’t be all the practical. And I love the long white hair. You can bet that Jackie would be just as snarky and mischievous as Jack. I also think she was probably quite the rebel when she was alive. I bet she wore pants even back then, which probably caused her parents all sorts of headaches.

23 She’s The Best Dragon Trainer Out There

Via: juliajm15.deviantart.com, kiyouya.deviantart.com

There are a lot of things I love about Hiccup. First of all, he’s not your typical Viking and can be seen tinkering with inventions (it does make sense since the kid’s body just doesn’t retain a lot of muscle). I also love that Hiccup is one of the most sarcastic characters I’ve seen, and it’s amazing. He always has some kind of retort for every situation and he’s not afraid to make his opinion known. But what I love the most is that this kid is pretty gentle and doesn’t actually want to fight, something that is very unusual in a Viking. I mean this is a guy who tried so hard to be the big tough Viking everyone expected him to be, but eventually gave in to the fact that he’s not, at least not in the way that’s expected.

A female Hiccup looks awesome! Considering the Vikings in this movie aren’t too concerned with gender roles, I can imagine female Hiccup would be going through some similar issues. She’s trying to live up to the town’s expectations and be a tough fighter, but realizing that she can’t, or at least doesn’t want to. It would be fun to see how she bonds with Toothless. Plus, her freckles are so cute!

22 She’s A Great Trollhunter

Via: tomeart.deviantart.com

I was surprised by how much I liked the TV series Trollhunters. And I think part of that was how much I liked Jim as the main protagonist. Here is a genuinely good kid who’s doing his best to live his life, help out his single mom with chores, and suddenly take on the role of a Trollhunter. In general, Jim is a very likable and well-rounded character. He has his own flaws and addresses them the best he can. You feel for this guy as he struggles to balance his old life with his new one, and in the beginning, he’s not very good at it. But you can tell that though he makes mistakes, he really cares about the trolls he’s now sworn to protect and he’ll do whatever it takes to stop evil from taking over.

I really like this design of female Jim (I think the artist calls her Jamie) since it still stays very true to the character. I could see Jamie rocking the casual look and not particularly caring about her style. I wonder if she would handle certain situations differently? Would she still punch Steve in the face? Would she have challenged Draal to a fight? Would Jamie be as reluctant as Jim to initially take on the duty of the Trollhunter, or would she be all for it at the start? It’s hard to say, but it would be interesting to see.

21 She’s The Cutest Panda Warrior

Via: mudashlaohu.tumblr.com

Po is another one of those characters you can’t help but like, despite his quirks. Po is a slightly awkward panda bear that’s obsessed with Kung Fu, even though he’s initially terrible at it. The idea that this clumsy big bear was chosen to be the powerful Dragon Warrior is hilarious and defies many expectations. And while we get plenty of scenes where Po is pretty silly and fun to watch, we also get scenes where he is serious and pretty powerful. This is a guy who has mastered many styles of fighting, but he’s also put his own twist to it.

I think a female Po is adorable! Just look at her! She’s such a fangirl of the Furious Five and you can tell she’s going to give it her all to become the best Dragon Warrior there is. I wonder if the other Furious Five would’ve been more accepting of a female Po. It’s hard to say. Though I’m pretty sure Tigress would still be seriously angry about everything. Considering there isn’t really a focus on gender roles in this universe, I don’t think Po being a girl would have much of an impact on everyone. You go, girl Po!

20 She’s Bringing Christmas To You

Via: dinoturtle.deviantart.com, vilva.deviantart.com

I think part of the reason I liked Rise of the Guardians so much was that they turned Santa Claus into this friendly Russian guy, whom you’re pretty sure was in the mafia at some point. (Plus, his swords are so freaking cool). Saint Nick in this movie is just awesome because while he is very tough and not afraid to fight, he’s also this pretty gentle guy who loves making toys for the kids. Like he says, he’s the guardian of wonder and he wants to make sure those kids never lose their sense of wonder. But don’t make him mad because he will mess you up.

I wonder if she would still have the “Naughty” and “Nice” tattoos on her arms?

So how would it be if Saint Nick was Saint Nikki? (I have no idea what they’d call her). I like that these two artists still stuck with the Russian theme in her outfits. And you know that a female Saint Nick would still be a pretty tough lady. She would totally be rocking a fur hat, and I could see her forgoing a dress in favor of some pants. That seems like her personality. I wonder if she would still have the “Naughty” and “Nice” tattoos on her arms? That would be pretty awesome if she did.

19 I’d Learn A Lot From This Duo

Via: ni-qu.deviantart.com

The idea of a dog adopting a little boy is a very interesting one. It gets even more unusual when we realize the dog is this super genius and takes his son on adventures through time and space for educational purposes. While I have mixed feelings about the movie Mr. Peabody and Sherman, I like the relationship between this genius dog and his son. They’re both dealing with some very real things. Sherman is trying to live up to his father’s expectations while also dealing with school, and Mr. Peabody is struggling with being a good parent while getting the social workers off his back. Throw time travel in there, and you’ve got quite the mess.

So, what if Mr. Peabody and Sherman were Ms. Pebbles and Sherry? I think it would be pretty cool to see these two girls traveling through time to learn about history. We do have a lot of shows and movies that focus on the father/son dynamic, but you don’t see as many mother/daughter ones. It would be cool to see the different struggles these two go through. I think Sherry would still be pushing herself to meet Ms. Pebbles expectations and Ms. Pebbles would have doubts about being a good mom.

18 She’s Pretty With Or Without Her Colors

Via: dawnbuneary.tumblr.com

I’m sure some of us felt like Branch, where being surrounded by a bunch of overly happy people who are singing and dancing and hugging all the time made us feel like we wanted to punch something. Branch is pretty much the opposite of what a troll is; he’s cynical, sarcastic and paranoid. He does have a good reason for being paranoid since there is the danger of the Bergens finding the trolls and eating them. But Branch is also hurting from losing his grandmother and hasn’t really figured out a way to deal with that trauma. In the end, though, we see him brighten up and start to embrace happiness. While that is nice, I hope he kept his snarky personality because he just wouldn’t be Branch without it.

I think Branch as a girl is just adorable. She just looks so cute, both as a gray troll and as a troll that’s found her colors. I’d like to think that female Branch would be just as snarky as her male counterpart, though I could see her sarcasm being a bit more biting. She would definitely still be that paranoid troll that’s created this whole elaborate doomsday bunker. I think she would also be a bit more touchy-feely than male Branch.

17 She’s Still An Awesome Mentor

Via: tomeart.deviantart.com

I ended up liking Blinky from Trollhunters a lot more than I initially thought I would. To be fair, he does come across as a bit dramatic and cheesy when you first meet him. (The guy is a scholar who’s fascinated by humans and has a flair for drama. What did you expect?). But I loved to see how he ends up becoming a father figure to Jim, whose own dad is no longer in the picture. It was amazing to see how Blinky grew to care deeply for Jim and is now willing to put his own life on the line for him. This guy may be a scholar, but he will fight back if pushed enough.

So, what if Blinky was a girl troll? Would much change? I.... don’t know, to tell you the truth. Gender doesn’t seem to be a huge deal for trolls, so I don’t think Blinky’s interactions with them would be that much different. But trolls are all about proving your strength and fighting abilities, and Blinky was sometimes looked down on for not being as tough as the others. Maybe that would translate over to female Blinky too. I like that the artist didn’t change too much with female Blinky’s body. You can tell she’s a female, but she’s still very much Blinky.

16 Poor Megamind Doesn’t Stand A Chance

Via: pinkyapple3.livejournal.com

Metro Man is the epitome of every stereotypical male superhero that has ever existed and it’s amazing. He’s like a cross between Superman and Elvis. What’s also interesting is that this guy is the superhero who wants to quit. He’s tired of the whole hero shtick and he wants to retire. (Though faking your own death may not be the smartest way to do it. Well, I guess Megamind was the genius for a reason). Despite the fact that you kind of want to hate him because he’s so stereotypically perfect, you actually end up liking him. He shows that he isn’t infallible and that he’s made mistakes too. The fact that he really doesn’t hate Megamind and actually encourages him to be the new hero is also pretty cool.

She’d definitely be all about the aesthetic.

So, what if Metro Man was Metro Woman? I think the dynamic between her and Megamind would be pretty interesting. I like this artist’s interpretation of her since she’s got some Wonder Woman vibes going on (and we all know that Wonder Woman is just glorious). I could also see Metro Woman flirting a bit with Megamind, especially if she knew it would throw him off. Her outfit is pretty flamboyant and not the most practical thing, but that’s actually pretty fitting of Metro Man (Woman?)’s personality. She’d definitely be all about the aesthetic.

15 So, What Do We Call Her?

Via: mrcreator3000.deviantart.com, sinwall.deviantart.com

What often confused me about Guy was how more evolved he seemed than the Croods. It was a little unnerving. But I guess if you spent the majority of your time in a cave like the Croods did instead of out exploring like Guy did, there would be some differences. Guy is a pretty likable character who’s shown to have a good grasp of the world and what they need to do to survive. To someone like Greg, Guy is crazy and dangerous, but to us, he’s reasonable and resourceful. His interactions with Eep are pretty cute, especially since you can tell he’s both fascinated by and slightly terrified of her.

So, if Guy were a female, would she be called Girl? Or maybe Gal? Or maybe she would call herself Guy just for the heck of it (which would be pretty funny). It would be cool to see this awesome girl go about and show this family how to survive in this crazy world. I don’t know how she would act around Eep. Maybe they’d become friends, or maybe they’d become something more. Eep would still find her fascinating. But no matter what, female Guy looks pretty awesome!

14 Voltron Can’t Handle This Trio

Via: twitter.com (gittana)

When you first look at Voltron: Legendary Defender, your first impression may be, “This looks like a Mecha anime combined with Transformers and Power Rangers.” And to a degree, that kind of is what the show is, but it’s much more than that. I’ll admit I was skeptical when I first started this show, but I ended up loving it. It’s got an interesting plot, amazing animation (the fights in space alone are worth watching this series), and some great character development. It really is the characters that make the show. But what would these characters be like if they switched genders?

It would be pretty cool to watch this series with these three ladies.

This artist takes a look at what Shiro, Keith, and Lance would look like if they were women. And they all look pretty amazing! I love that female Shiro has a white streak in her hair. But I could see female Keith wearing something more like jeans and a t-shirt; it seems more like her style. Female Lance would definitely love wearing skirts and tank tops. Female Shiro would probably comfortable in whatever. It would be pretty cool to watch this series with these three ladies. I don’t think their dynamics would change too much. Female Keith and Lance would still be rivals and would probably clash, and female Shiro would be the big sister/mom friend that’s trying to keep everyone on task and alive.

13 Better Watch Out For This Kitty

Via: kattything.deviantart.com

When Puss in Boots showed up in the Shrek movies, I don’t think he was quite what we were expecting. (Unless you were expecting a surprisingly suave cat that’s voiced by Antonio Banderas. Because I wasn’t). But I think that was a good thing. He defied some expectations in a fun and entertaining way. He’s basically like Zorro but in cat form. Plus, those big eyes he makes when he’s begging are just adorable. And Puss in Boots managed to become popular enough that he got his own movie and even a TV series. Wow, you go, dude!

So how would a female Puss in Boots be? Granted, I think this artist based their version off of the more fairytale version of Puss in Boots and less the DreamWorks version, but we’re counting it. Just look at this lady kitty! She is the definition of smooth and slinky, and she is rocking those boots. She definitely has this kind of swashbuckling pirate air to her. I could see her on her own ship commanding a crew and looking for treasure. This is a kitty that you can’t help but like but definitely wouldn’t want to double-cross. Don’t be fooled by her looks and her charm; she will take you down if she has to.

12 She’s The Trickiest Changeling

Via: tomeart.deviantart.com

To be honest; I’m not sure how I feel about Strickler from Trollhunters. He’s definitely not someone you can trust as he’s a changeling who often switches sides when it suits him. But at the same time, you can tell he does care for the people important to him. But then he puts those people in danger to save his own skin, so he still is kind of a scumbag. I don’t blame Jim for being angry with him, especially since Strickler deliberately put Jim’s mom in danger, even though he was dating her at the time. Basically, Strickler is a complicated person who’s hard to read and even harder to understand. While that may not make him a likable character, it does make him quite interesting.

Strickler as a woman does look pretty cool. I like her changeling look as she looks both dangerous and intriguing. Her outfit reminds me of the Amazons and she definitely gives off that vibe of an ancient warrior woman. And I like how it contrasts so much with her human disguise. Strickler in human form isn’t particularly intimidating and her outfit reflects that, being pretty conservative and practical. It’s hard to imagine this teacher as a dangerous changeling, which is probably what she was going for.

11 She’ll Give You The Best Dreams

Via: vilva.deviantart.com, bringsyoudreams.tumblr.com

Does anybody actually dislike Sandy from Rise of the Guardians? I really think it’s impossible to hate this guy. His very appearance is so friendly and approachable that you feel like you’ve been friends with him for years. And he was the only Guardian who really interacted with Jack on a regular basis. Considering he’s the Guardian of dreams, it makes sense that he’s so nice. Who doesn’t want good dreams? And when Jack is chosen to be the newest Guardian, you can tell Sandy is all for it. That’s what made his “demise” so upsetting.

So what would Sandy look like as a woman? Well, it could go a couple of different ways, and these artists have a lot of fun with it. I do think Sandy as this powerful, angelic beauty is very fun to see, but I also like the idea that she’s this short, round, jovial woman who’s spreading good dreams. Both versions are very nice and they represent the different sides to Sandy. Sandy can be very kind and approachable, but he can also be very powerful and intimidating. Either way, female Sandy likely wouldn’t change much and I think she would still be very friendly to Jack whenever she saw him.

10 Watch Out For These Con Artists

Via: jamlaboratory.deviantart.com

You can’t find a better duo than Miguel and Tulio from The Road to El Dorado. These two have been conning people for years, always looking for that next big score. So, it’s not surprising that they’d jump at the chance to find the fabled city of gold. What’s crazy is that these two generally try to sweet-talk their way out of any dangerous situation and that it actually works most of the time. They’re both very skilled, or incredibly lucky (it may be a bit of both). Seriously, how these two have survived this long is beyond me. (I also wonder how they met. Did they wind up working together on a con? Maybe they got thrown in jail together).

And I think female Miguel and Tulio would just be fabulous. You know they’d take advantage of their looks and probably flirt their way out of trouble. A lot. I mean, imagine what female Miguel could do with those puppy eyes. I also like how this artist pretty much kept the hairstyles the same, and they still work really well (though female Tulio’s is quite a bit longer). You know these two ladies would have the time of their lives, cheating at gambling games, running away from the guards, and going on crazy adventures. It’s never a dull moment with these two.

9 She’s The Best Pirate

Via: mabychan.tumblr.com, mel-maux.deviantart.com

I don’t get why more people don’t like Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. It’s got adventure, romance, giant monsters, an amazing villain, and some pretty fun characters. And the main character Sinbad is a pretty likable guy. Yeah, he can be a bit arrogant and tends to get himself into some crazy situations, but he’s not afraid to risk his own life for others and he’s pretty sweet when he wants to be. Plus, who doesn’t love that sultry smirk?

So how would Sinbad be like as a woman? Oh, she would still be out adventuring and rocking the pirate look. She looks just as cocky and confident as her male counterpart. I like that the artists gave lady Sinbad a stronger jaw than you would expect. It gives her that tough look that seems pretty fitting of a lady pirate captain. I would love to see a lady Sinbad who’s the captain of her own ship and out having adventures with her crew. It would also be very interesting to see how she would interact with Eris the Goddess of chaos. Would Eris still flirt with her, or would she take a different approach? Hard to say. And I could see female Sinbad being just as much of a flirt as her male counterpart.

8 They’re A Colorful Bunch

Via: yo-snap2.deviantart.com

I was pretty surprised by the movie Trolls. On the surface, it looked like a rather obnoxious, brightly colored animated feature that only younger kids would enjoy. And while yes, there are some childish gags and imagery, the movie itself is actually pretty entertaining. The characters were pretty fun, there were some good jokes in there, and the animation was really fun to watch. And at the center of it were a bunch of colorful characters. While some were fairly one-dimensional, a few like Branch and Poppy were pretty interesting. But what would these trolls look like if they were genderbent?

It seems like in the Trolls universe, the designation between male and female is relatively straightforward. While it’s not through coloring, it is through body types and dress. And this artist decided to mess around with that. I think my favorite is female Biggie. She looks incredibly cute with her little pet worm, and the skirt she’s wearing is super nice. I also like that female Branch is still rocking the patched-up pants; that seems pretty fitting of her personality. And it’s kind of funny that female Cooper didn’t change much in appearance other than some of her features were softened up a tad bit.

7 The Duo We Didn’t Know We Wanted

tomeart.deviantart.com

Until a certain episode in the 2nd season of Trollhunters, I think all the fans agreed that Steve Palchuck, the school bully, was the worst. He was brutal to kids like Eli, he constantly harassed Jim and his friends, and he was just, in general, a huge jerk. But then there’s the episode where he and Eli team up after Steve discovers a goblin in his garage. Throughout this episode, we see a different side to Steve, and we see a rather different dynamic developing between the bully and the nerd. And afterward, we see a slow change in Steve. Yeah, he’s still a bit of a jerk, but he’s actually started to become friends with Eli, and he even helps out Jim and the trolls. It’s an unexpected but believable development. I’m actually really curious to see what Steve will be like in season 3.

You can bet female Eli would still be super into conspiracies and aliens.

So how would Steve and Eli look as girls? Pretty good, actually! While I could see female Steve maybe being a bit more feminine and owning it, I like female Eli’s style. You can bet she would still be super into conspiracies and aliens. And female Steve would probably still make fun of female Eli. It would be interesting to see the dynamic between female Steve and Jim.

6 She’s The Best Space Aunt

Via: merwalrus.tumblr.com, mayorowly.tumblr.com

A lot of fans can agree that Shiro and Allura are basically Space Dad and Space Mom in Voltron: Legendary Defender. And we can all agree that Coran, Allura’s advisor is basically the crazy Space Uncle. Seriously, Coran is a huge source of comedy and entertainment, mainly because he’s pretty over the top in his actions and he’s got a rather funny but strange sense of humor. But underneath that, you can tell he cares deeply for Allura and the paladins. He’s there for a good laugh, but he’s also a great source of support for everyone. Basically, if you dislike Coran, you’re wrong.

I think Coran looks pretty awesome as a woman! (Although I was half expecting her to have a mustache. Hey, Alteans can shapeshift so it’s a plausible thing). I do like that the artist kept female Coran in her uniform since it just works for her so well. Plus, it’s kind of hard to imagine Coran wearing anything else. (Yeah, we’ve seen him in other outfits, but it just looks kind of weird). It would be interesting to see the dynamic between female Coran and Allura. Would she be like a mother figure to Allura, who’s lost hers? Or maybe she’d be that kind and supportive aunt figure. It’s hard to tell.
