DreamWorks has become a pretty big company in recent years, coming out with quite the variety of movies. Some are strange, some are beautiful, and some are just plain fun.

What’s pretty awesome about DreamWorks is that the company isn’t afraid to take risks. It tends to gamble when it comes to movie ideas. Sometimes the gamble pays off, and sometimes it doesn’t. But no matter what, you can guarantee that whatever DreamWorks makes, it will be memorable.

My favorite DreamWorks movie is probably How to Train Your Dragon. Besides having a great story and entertaining and relatable characters, the movie has absolutely gorgeous animation and music. It’s a great adventure story with just the right amount of humor and sarcasm. Plus, Toothless is absolutely adorable. This movie showed us that DreamWorks can do epic adventures and have a serious story.

But DreamWorks isn’t perfect, and while it has created many unique movies, they tend to have their own fair share of problems. While we have to give DreamWorks movies credit for being a bit zanier than your average animated movie, they still sometimes didn’t make a lot of sense. Whether it was simple plot holes or concepts that were just too weird, DreamWorks movies can be a bit confusing.

How do we talk about these issues? With memes, of course! So, here are 20 memes that poke fun at DreamWorks movies and show us why these movies often make zero sense.

Think we missed a few good memes? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below!

20 This Family Looks Surprisingly Healthy

Via: memecrunch.com

In The Croods, the main conflict is that this prehistoric family is just trying to survive in a world that seems to be changing drastically. One of the prevailing themes for the movie was the fact that they never seemed to have enough food for everyone. And yet, there’s one thing that that doesn’t quite add up: their appearances.

That’s what this meme is all about. Considering the fact that this family seems to have a hard time finding food, they all look pretty well fed. Everyone, especially the younger brother, looks pretty heavy. I don’t know about you, but you would think that people who supposedly never get enough to eat would look a little more emaciated. I guess it’s just part of the character design, but it is a little weird.

19 I’m Sensing A Double Standard Here

Via: funnyclone.com

If you think about it, there was a lot of focus on Zootopia and joke that it was a movie for furries. In fact, a lot of people who ended up loving Zootopia often got labeled as a furry, or someone who is rather obsessed with anthropomorphic animals.

You could actually consider Kung Fu Panda as a bit of a precursor to Zootopia.

This meme covers the issue that while many fans of Zootopia got flak for loving it, there was very little conversation about fans of Kung Fu Panda. You could actually consider Kung Fu Panda as a bit of a precursor to Zootopia. And yet there was not nearly as much talk about furries when Kung Fu Panda had come out. It’s kind of weird how one movie became more known for a demographic of people than the other.

18 He’s Not Looking Very Toothless

Via: animeanimal.deviantart.com

How to Train Your Dragon is definitely one of DreamWorks’ best movies. It has a fantastic story, interesting characters, and some truly great interaction between a boy and a dragon. Toothless is both incredibly adorable and surprisingly intimidating. You can’t help but love him. But there is one detail that’s a little weird about him, which is his teeth.

This meme is talking about Toothless’ retractable teeth. Yep, a dragon with retractable teeth. (Hey, weirder things have happened in this movie.) So, in a way, it makes sense that Hiccup would call this dragon Toothless, but it’s also kind of a weird name, considering this unusual dragon’s teeth are generally out most of the time. But I guess once the nickname stuck, no one was changing it anytime soon.

17 Yep, That’s The Dragon Warrior

Via: meme-lol.com

One of the big themes in the Kung Fu Panda movies is that despite the prestigious title that Po holds, he’s still a huge dork. This was shown especially in the 2nd movie, where it shows that Po has gained a lot more fighting skill, but he’s still that slightly awkward, clumsy guy.

Despite the prestigious title that Po holds, he’s still a huge dork.

This meme handles one particular scene where Po doesn’t think. It’s just after the epic moment where Po redirects a cannonball, which was amazingly cool. But he then ruins the image when he freaks out over his hand being on fire and then shoves it in his mouth... despite the fact that he’s literally surrounded by water. In his defense, having a body part on fire would be freaky and Po isn’t exactly known for thinking clearly when he’s panicking.

16 What’s Up With The Names?

Via: JP3605.deviantart.com

The three Madagascar movies were pretty interesting and did cover quite a few funny and entertaining tropes. The characters were all lively enough that they were fun to watch, and they had their own issues they were dealing with. And the animation style was pretty unique. But there’s one element of the movies that doesn’t make a ton of sense, which is the title.

We get why the first movie was called Madagascar; it was in Madagascar. But what about the other two? They were in Africa and parts of Europe. Madagascar had absolutely nothing to do with them. Now, I get that it was a branding thing, and it makes sense for the sequels to the movie to be named the same thing, but still. That’s a little weird and confusing.

15 Aww, How Could You Hate This Face?

Via: pinterest.com

I really think Megamind just came out before its time, because it’s seriously an underrated movie. (Probably didn’t help that it came out around the same time as Despicable Me.) It takes a lot of fun superhero tropes and turns them on their heads, especially since it’s told from the perspective of the supervillain.

Megamind isn’t actually all that dangerous or even that intimidating.

But there is one thing that doesn’t make a ton of sense, which is why people hated Megamind so much. And that’s what this meme kind of touches on. In general, Megamind isn’t actually all that dangerous or even that intimidating. In general, he’s kind of a cute dork. And he’s absolutely adorable when he’s a baby. Who could hate that? But let’s face it, people probably would hate him just because he looked different.

14 He Takes Stubborn To A New Level

Via: pinterest.com

I feel like The Prince of Egypt is another one of DreamWorks’ more underrated films. It tells the amazing story of Moses through gorgeous animation, great voice acting, and wonderful character interaction. You can seriously feel the emotion whenever Moses is interacting with Ramses. Neither of them wants to fight each other, but they feel they have no choice.

That being said, Ramses is one stubborn guy. Seriously, considering all the plagues that Moses summoned, this Pharaoh refused to budge. It took the demise of the firstborn in all of Egypt and his own son for him to finally relent. I can just imagine Moses having this meme reaction. There’s stubbornness, and then there just plain stupidity. Though, that is exactly what happened in the Bible, so what can you do?

13 I’m Here To Talk About The Guardian Initiative

Via: fanpop.com

Remember Rise of the Guardians? The one where Jack Frost was surprisingly hot and Santa Claus was this awesome tough Russian guy? I have to give this movie a lot of points for creativity. They took an idea that on paper may have sounded dumb and turned it into a pretty awesome movie.

Essentially the Guardians were very similar to the Avengers.

This meme points out a rather funny element of the movie that probably didn’t occur to many of us. But essentially the Guardians were very similar to the Avengers, especially with the idea of them coming together to fight off a common enemy. There are a lot more parallels than you would think. The Guardians do have this type of superhero quality to them, but they’re just steeped more in mythology and fantasy. You know, Pitch does remind me of Loki...

12 Yeah, They Didn’t Even Try On This One

I think we can probably all agree that Sharktale was one of DreamWorks’ worst movies. (Though it somehow won an Oscar. Why?) The story is pretty bland and predictable, the character designs are borderline racist, and the color scheme is just unpleasant to look at. Admittedly, the world this movie exists in is kind of cool, but that’s about it.

But there’s also the fact that this movie came out pretty soon after another fish-centered movie. And that’s what this meme is calling Sharktale out on. Now, we know that Sharktale doesn’t really have that much in common with Finding Nemo, other than they’re both movies about fish characters. But the fact that Sharktale came out just a year after Finding Nemo makes it look like DreamWorks was looking to grab some easy cash off the success of Pixar.

11 This Movie Was Kind Of Crazy

Via: memedroid.com

One popular meme is to take the plot of a movie and explain it backward. It provides a lot of laughs, and sometimes it can show just how crazy the original plot of the movie was. Or sometimes the backward plot would actually make more sense than the original.

Put simply, Shrek was very weird.

In the case of Shrek, both the original and the backward plot are pretty strange. Though the backward version may look a little more conventional by fairy tale standards. Shrek, in general, is a pretty strange movie that basically wanted to make fun of fairy tales, but also create an interesting fairy tale. That’s why we get an ogre for a hero, the prince is a complete jerk, and the princess is pretty unladylike. Put simply, Shrek was very weird, but that’s probably why we all liked it so much.

10 Seriously, How Does He Do That?

Via: pinterest.com

There are many mysteries surrounding the movie The Road to El Dorado. For example, how did Miguel and Tulio luck out so hard that a volcano erupted right when they needed to prove themselves as gods? Why is the horse freakishly intelligent? But one big mystery is the priest Tzekel-Kan.

This guy is beyond creepy, but there is a lot of weirdness surrounding him. How did he get his powers? What ancient magic is he actually drawing on? But the biggest question is what this meme addresses: where on earth does Tzekel-Kan put his book? He often seems to be pulling it out from under his clothes, but there was no evidence it was there before. Is he just pulling it out of thin air? Is this another one of his tricks? We may never know.

9 That’s Friendship Right There

Via: httydlover12.deviantart.com

You have to admit that Hiccup and Toothless have a pretty cute dynamic going. The journey from where they become enemies to tentative allies to friends is a pretty organic one and it’s just incredibly fun to watch. Theirs is a bond that isn’t easily broken, and it’s awesome to see Hiccup learn to gain this dragon’s trust.

But the way they often bond is a little unusual sometimes.

But the way they often bond is a little unusual sometimes. And this scene after Toothless accidentally may have roasted Hiccup a bit and now they’re just chilling and eating fish is a slightly strange one, but still kind of cute. This meme mostly points out the strangeness of the situation, and I can imagine Hiccup was probably thinking how insane all of this was. But that didn’t stop him from continuing to be friends with this dragon.

8 How Did He Get Stronger?

Via: memecenter.com

Tai Lung was a pretty intimidating villain in the first Kung Fu Panda movie. And that probably came about from his famous prison escape scene. (Seriously the way that was choreographed was pure art. I could watch that all day.) And when he faces the Furious Five, he seems to be more powerful than ever, easily defeating them. But this does raise a good question: how is he still fit and strong?

The way Tai Lung was trapped in prison would’ve left him with no way to exercise. And being down there for 20 years meant that his muscles would’ve wasted away to practically nothing. That’s what this meme questions, how on earth did Tai Lung still remain muscular and strong, despite having been in prison and confined to little movement? Something’s not adding up here.

7 Quick Lesson In Giraffe Anatomy

Via: imgflip.com

Considering that Madagascar is a movie about a bunch of talking animals, there is a lot of suspension of disbelief in general. (Though did the movie ever say if the animals can talk to the humans? Do the humans understand them? Hmm.) But there is one little fact that even makes this element a little crazy.

Apparently, giraffes don’t have any vocal chords.

And that’s what this meme talks about. Apparently, giraffes don’t have any vocal chords. This makes sense, considering we’ve never actually heard a giraffe make any noise. So, here’s the question: how is it that Melvin can talk? If he doesn’t have vocal chords, he shouldn’t be able to make a sound, much less have a conversation with friends. But all things considered, the fact that Melvin shouldn’t have vocal chords is probably the least of our worries.

6 Robots, Robots Everywhere

Via: megamind-movie.livejournal.com

While Megamind isn’t incredibly strong like Metro Man, he’s insanely brilliant, and he’s built a ton of inventions. Some of these inventions are practical and ingenious, while others are a bit crazier and not super helpful. And he’s made robots. A lot of robots. Seriously, this guy has a ton of robots.

Not only does Megamind have a lot of doglike robots, but half of his weapons and vehicles are robots. He also has this giant robot mecha suit that he fights Titan in. And let’s not forget that Minion, his henchman, and good friend, is a fish that lives inside a robot. This meme does a good job of pointing out Megamind’s slightly ridiculous obsession with robots. I get that you’re this genius mastermind that knows a lot of tech stuff, but you’ve got a problem, Megamind.

5 Why Didn’t This Movie Get A Sequel?

Via: toonfanjoey.deviantart.com

Over the Hedge was a very entertaining movie, full of crazy characters, fun humor, slightly strange scenarios and some pretty impressive animation. The idea of animals totally taking advantage of humans moving into their territory is a pretty cool idea. And it does happen in real life. Plus, who doesn’t love Hammy?

A sequel to this movie could be pretty fun.

So why didn’t this movie get a sequel? Considering it did pretty well in theaters, it’s kind of surprising DreamWorks didn’t immediately have a sequel planned out. (After all, Shrek is on what, number five now?) It’s kind of a shame. A sequel to this movie could be pretty fun. The animals could discover the mall, or maybe they’d tackle more issues of suburbia. But it doesn’t look like a sequel is in the future for this movie.

4 This Was Not the Smartest Move

Via: sarah2297.deviantart.com

The whole premise of The Prince of Egypt is pretty dark. Even in the beginning, the Jews are facing a bit of a life-ending scenario as Pharaoh has his men go and eliminate all of the baby Hebrew boys. But Moses’ mother is determined to save him, so she places him in a basket and sends it down the river. Wait, what?

While I get that the mother didn’t really have a lot of options, I don’t think sending your son in a basket down a river is the safest thing to do. Though I guess it is a rather spiritual moment as she is putting the life of her infant son in the hands of God. And things did work out for Moses since Pharaoh’s wife is the one who found him.

3 He Really Shouldn’t Be This Cute

Via: pinterest.com

When most people think of Hugh Jackman, they probably think of Wolverine, a tough warrior who doesn’t take any flak from anyone. (Though more recently, we’ll probably see him as the suave singer and dancer from The Greatest Showman). But of all the things you picture, you probably wouldn’t think of a fluffy little bunny.

It’s really weird to hear his voice coming out of a tiny little bunny.

But Hugh Jackman did voice the Easter Bunny in Rise of the Guardians. And at one point, the Easter Bunny gets reduced to this tiny adorable form. I mean Hugh Jackman does a good voice acting job, but it’s really weird to hear his voice coming out of a tiny little bunny that’s way too cute for words. (And yet he somehow manages to be somewhat intimidating in that form. I don’t know how that happened.)

2 Seriously, How Did This Work?

Via: 9gag.com

The Shrek series has a few interesting couples. And probably one of the most unusual couples is Donkey and the dragon that guarded Fiona’s tower. Yep, a donkey and a lady dragon became a couple. I feel like the writers originally started it as a joke, and then they decided to take it a step further and make it a thing. In fact, she ends up helping Shrek and Donkey by eating Farquad. (You know, DreamWorks just glossed over that detail, huh?)

But what’s weird is that these two start a family and have babies. Which is good and all, but how exactly does that work? I didn’t think a talking donkey and a dragon were compatible that way, but apparently they are. Actually, I probably don’t want to know how that works.

1 I’m Getting Mixed Signals Here

Via: imgflip.com

At a first glance, you probably wouldn’t think the movie Angry Birds and the movie Trolls had anything in common, other than being DreamWorks movies. But it turns out they do have quite a few similarities. The main character is a grumpy person that lives in a village full of ridiculously happy people.

The two movies are rather different in how they deal with conflict.

But while the two do have some similarities, they are rather different in how they deal with conflict. Angry Birds tells kids that its okay to fight people if they’re actually threatening you. But Trolls actually preaches the opposite, saying you should make friends with them. I’m not saying that DreamWorks can’t do movies that have different themes and morals, but where these two movies are pretty similar in settings and characters, the opposite messages do seem pretty weird.
